Gracias @12f Mane - I knew 100% it was a species of watersnake but beyond diamondback and broad banded I get a little sketchy on the specific variety. I just knew without a doubt it was non-venomous.
Cold front is about to run through, first time in months I ran and did not see a single snake.

Snake that big is not only eating chicken eggs, need to keep him around to take care of the other rodents

I have had several people ask me how I find snakes and I always tell them to think one of these things doesn't belong. Shapes, shadows, smell, patterns, etc. that just don't seem right are the best way.
With that being said I'm not sure I would have caught that one right away, he is in there pretty good. First thing I thought when I saw him is you found Toothless. If you have kids you know who that is

Found this guy prepping the young chick coop that we haven't used in a while. It had a small meal in him. Classic rat. I showed him to the kids and let him go out back.
Here's one that lives under our porch, and I think he's a southern black racer... would love any thoughts. I can attest to the fact that he's fast as hell.
That would be a coachwhip here, right? Black racers are more eastern US, if I remember right.

Thanks to all who answered. Coachwhip was my second guess, but its tail stays so dark I wasn't sure.
Spent all day hiking around Joshua Tree NP looking for snakes to post here, and all I came across was this. Desert Spiny Lizard unless I am mistaken.

Every time the War Department and I see a lizard perched some where, we always make the pa-ching sound. Last night in the neighborhood with an oak lizard on a hedge. I hope I've contaminated all of you now.

I saw and had to kill a coral snake in my West Houston neighborhood this morning. It was aggressive and very fast.
