That episode was lame. Wish we could get away from these and have more that connects the story together. It just felt like filler.
I feel the same. I have evolved more and more away from being able to enjoy episodic TV shows. Ever since the likes of The Shield and Breaking Bad, I want every show I watch to be more like an elongated movie spread out over seasons. I feel ripped off with filler episodes.

I get other people may enjoy it, but I think I've just been spoiled.

Random thoughts about this episode:

*How did the guys that pulled the old "rope across the path" trick get to where they were? They walked out there without a ship or speeder nearby? C'mon.
*No way the ecosystem the spider creatures inhabit has enough food to feed them all.
*Since we're going with the Alien vibe, maybe the Fish Thing's eggs burst out of Baby Yoda at some point.

A) maybe they camp at that spot and do opportunistic raids on travelers

B) maybe they hibernate in between prey showing up and are alerted by eggs hatching

C) sure, why not? Just to see people's heads explode from damage to BY

Were the spiders the same (or similar) to the spiders from Rebels? Obviously different planet but they seemed like a pretty close match to me

Szostak works for Lucasfilm and is one of the main authors for all of the "The Art of Star Wars" books out there.

This is from wiki, which doesn't really address the reason for ever closing them, just the advantage of opening
Quote:

The T-65B X-wing's distinctive strike foils or "S-foils" are opened and closed by powerful servo motors in the spacecraft. When in the open or 'attack' position, they provided a greater range of fire to the laser cannons mounted on the end of each wing. They also serve to distribute energy to enlarge the deflector shield, shed waste heat, and function as stabilizer surfaces during air travel

A 4 year old reddit thread discusses this very question and suggests that the closed position is to easier route energy to the engines when the weapons don't need it.
When TPM came out (pre-booking seats), my ex-wife and I were standing in line for a couple of hours waiting to get into the theater. Two nerds behind us debated almost the entirety of that time if an F-16 could take an X-Wing in a dogfight. Like, seriously getting into it to the point of getting a little testy with another.

Also, my ex-wife was 6'0 tall and was pretty much the only woman in line with me and a bunch of straight dorks. She was basically a unicorn and every dork in there was practically drooling over her because she stood out so much.

Funny damn day and was probably more entertaining than the actual movie.

That was me and Brian Earl Spilner. And we actually got into a fist fight after the movie about why Captain Tarpals was not promoted to General ahead of Jar Jar Binks. We were pretty pissed off because some freakazoid giant woman sat in front of us and we missed the first 2 laps of the pod race until the usher got us booster seats.

Honestly, I'd think an ice planet more capable than a desert planet, considering there's ample water, and it's been shown that places like Europa can maintain a sea under that ice due to gravitational pull and underwater vents that can potentially support large form life.

But also, it's Star Wars, so you know, space wizards and such

If you're replying to the previous post, that's not a desert planet.

I was replying to the general concept, referencing back to episode 1 where a massive karyt dragon somehow subsists on banthas that seem to be a small fraction of their weight. I'm well aware, that's the asteroid in ESB

While we are being nit picky about plot holes on S2. That frog egg holder seems to be a Bag of Holding.

Baby Yoda knocked the count of that thing down to about 5-6 eggs, but once they landed on Hoth 2.0 there were 30-40 in that hot tub. I realize they had to expand that scene out for the dramatic effect, so I don't really care. Just thought it was a pretty big discrepancy.

Granted, you could hand wave it away by saying frog lady simply shot out more eggs in the hot tub environment.

This show has everything. Spaghetti westerns, swashbuckling pirates, and space omelette maker.

What's a space omelette maker?

It's that thing of when you let Baby Yoda eat a bunch of frog eggs, while you heat up some chopped krayt dragon in a pan. Then you hold him over the pan while he regurgitates all the eggs. Throw another pan over that, then do a couple barrel rolls on your ship to mix it all together.

Pretty cool (also a little scary). Is this the first show that has ever used this technology? I assume so since it's ILM?

I think it is the first with this holistic approach. They did a lot of similar work with the Jungle Book but it was kind of piecemeal.

The part I find absolutely insane is the fact that there isn't a license fee for using the unreal engine.

I'm still seeing games get released on Steam using it even today. Some of them using OLD versions of it on purpose just to recreate nostalgia.

[I'm assuming you are referring to the Unreal Engine and not calling this technology unreal as an adjective.]

Overthinking nerd here.

There isn't a license fee but they do have a royalty structure for games. Some other applications of the software may have a licensing fee.

They do use the Unreal Engine, but I thought you do have to pay to use it. maybe I am remembering wrong though

I was talking to a producer (not of the show) the other day and was told that the games have a royalty structure but they haven't set up a licensing structure for this kind of use case. I am sure they will soon enough but my understanding is that if you aren't making games with it, feel free to use it.

For anyone who wants to read. Reading that, it's my understanding that non-games items are included, but I'm neither a lawyer nor a filmmaker, so I'm not going to dig too deeply into that aspect of it. It does seem that the royalty-free aspect is more for small/indy filmmakers, though.

I love everything about this show and it is must watch TV for me. This episode was very visually entertaining and I appreciate what all that entails. That being said, this was the first episode I got bored. I caught myself checking my phone three separate times. I'm usually glued to the TV the whole watch. I hope we get back to some more main story plot soon.

Real time production is in its infancy right now so there's no real money to be made on their end, games is where their revenue source is for now.

So for now it's free with tons of resources so they can get people using in it production for small indie type projects, doesn't cost them much to support that. Then as those people move into bigger projects and as the technology becomes mainstream...cha-ching.

Yeah, games is my expertise, so I know that side, but the filmmaking part had always just been in the back of my mind as something they do that I don't really pay attention to.

Thanks for the insight from that side.

Very cool.

Yeah, I've spent a fair amount of time looking into it, the potential is amazing but there's not much expertise on the film/animation side yet. It would be amazing to be able to look at lighting, FX, etc., in realtime but most artists aren't familiar with working that way.

I really do need to try taking a full scene out of Maya and see what can be done with it in Unreal or Unity though.
