agree with the question...comparing to 2019 instead of YTD 2021 which we know to have been a disaster seems like a shell game.

Over 470 murders in 2021

Why? He isn't comparing to ytd 2021 exactly because it was a disaster. If we were 10% lower would that mean anything? Same as the White House claiming they lowered gas prices when they're still at near record highs. 2019 is the baseline because it was level everyone considered "normal."

Using a straight linear trend, that would suggest an annual total of 474. Not sure how that compares with 2020 or 2021.

473 in 2021 per a 12/31/21 report from KTRK

Is that related to the Kliff Kingsbury exemption?

^^^This. 2019 was the last year of the downward trend in homicides and overall violent crime that began in the mid-90s.

2020 brought the Floyd riots, massive expansion of the influence of BLM (which actually started in 2014, after Ferguson), and "Defund the police", capped off with the election of a whole bunch of Soros-funded, radical leftist prosecutors. Which lead directly to increases in crime, most notably shootings and homicides.

Remember too, that murder rates since the end of the vietnam war are only depressed because of medical technology and so many victims who would have been "murdered" in the past are now just victims of attempted homicides.

In Houston, it was not the election of a Soros funded prosecutor that was the problem, so much as election of all the "Black Tragic" totally inexperienced and soft on crime democratic judges on Beto's coat tails that have turned the tide.

Don't forget Beto-Mania in 2018 which totally f***ed our city. We ended straight ticket voting one cycle too late.

Funny you say that. Sister's company had to deal with an employee who "got beat up by a guy he was visiting at a park in SW Houston" over his lunch break. Employee didn't call the cops just came back with a busted face like it was just another Wednesday at the office. HR had to ensure it didn't happen on campus. Her friend in HR gave her the real deets. Guess male prostitutes don't like being stiffed after they are stiffed.

The Chronicle had a funny/sad story a couple years ago about all the guys that get busted in Memorial Park for foolin around at lunchtime. Not sure if it was male prostitution, or just downlow meat-ups. But the cop interviewed in the story said the first thing out of the guys' mouths when they get caught is always, "Please don't tell my wife."

The parking lot of the TC Jester public pool in Oak Forest between 34th and 43rd is a crazy hot spot for night time hetero hookups.

I've ridden my bike around the Memorial Park picnic loop way too many times, and there are always cars in those little enclave parking lots with people just sitting in them. Sometimes I'd see others pull up next to them. It always disturbed me as some of those folks looked like axe murderers just waiting pick off one of the riders or walkers going around.

Thankfully, I never saw anyone gettin' busy, but it is really sad that people cannot stay true to their wedding vows, or are just that much of whoooors.

I was always amazed by how many people just live out there. You'd see cars parked and could tell every belonging that person had was tied to the roof.

I guess I'm oblivious.

I worked in the area for years and would eat lunch there almost weekly. If it was too hot, I'd stay in the truck with the AC on.

Never saw anything like that.

Seriously, I'm pretty sure there was a thread about it here when that story came out. I had heard some stories about "Lover's Lane" in Memorial Park before, from cop and lawyer types, but that Chronicle story spelled it out. And I guess the lunchtime part was what was really weird about it to me. Like, "yeahhh....I'll be back in an hour. May want to reschedule my 2'o'clock."
