I have always wondered when you see those kind of stats after the year we had in 2021, how much of the drop is real and how much is that people simply stop reporting crimes because law enforcement and the judicial system have shown they will do nothing about it?

I have never traveled to a foreign country that has a strained (at best) relationship with the US while carrying drugs that are illegal in both the US and the destination country.

Changing lanes without a blinker or speeding through a small town and getting a ticket or maybe forgetting to pay for something in the bottom of your shopping cart and walking out of the grocery store are stupid mistakes. Taking drugs to a foreign country is juuuuuuust a touch beyond a simple stupid mistake. Assuming it wasn't planted on her, as the previous poster noted.

Too harsh. She's a us citizen caught in the middle of a political game. I'm 50/50 whether she actually had the hash oil on her or it was planted. But ultimately doesn't matter either way.. Her situation is what it is at this point.

I'm empathetic for her but you can't be trading criminals for pseudo-celebrities... Otherwise you've made it open season on high profile Americans around the world. Same reason we have a stated policy against negotiating with terrorists (I understand our actions sometimes counter that policy).

I've traveled the world but have never had any inkling to visit Russia or Moscow because of this type of thing right here. Somebody points at you and calls you a spy and you're done... Their logic and morals are so far removed from our idea of fairness and justice that I could never be comfortable walking the streets in that environment.
