He didn't have an offer from Wun Wun to fight one on one for Winterfell. If he'd shot Jon Snow then the dozens of Archers surrounding him at that moment would've just killed him. By challenging Snow, theoretically, if he wins he gets to stay alive.

Realistically, the archers would've unloaded on him the moment he shot the giant and not give him an opportunity to challenge Jon, but that wouldn't have been as fun, would it?

We don't know that she got a written response from LF yet. Maybe they discuss that in the episode tonight, but everybody is assuming she received a written response back from LF. He obviously didn't pick up a cell phone and give her immediate confirmation that he was coming.

Doesn't take a written response to tell Jon that she sent a crow to LF asking for aid. That alone would have likely been sufficient reason for Jon to delay the assault. Her choice to keep that information was either incompetence of the highest order or her willful betrayal of Jon (I lean towards the latter).

Predictions for tonight? I don't watch the "next week on" stuff, but:

-tommen has Cersei arrested (possibly due to Margery)
-Arya sets sail
-Gentry shows back up
-Davos ****s up the red woman
-Jon sits broodingly

I'm psyched to see the Direwolf sigil back in the opening credits.

Arya rejoins Jon and Sansa at Winterfell in time for all of them to be mistakenly slaughtered by the Brotherhood Without Banners on a mission to oust Ramsey.

Benjen and Bran get lost and end up in Essos just as Dany and Scissor girl are sailing off.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger that opens up an entirely new storyline that can't possibly be resolved in one more season.

-Cersei is found guilty at her trial. She gives the signal to what's his name to prepare the wildfire...cliffhanger
-WW marching south towards the Wall...cliffhanger

Most of the interest in the Tower of Joy stems from fan theories that we haven't discussed here since this is "show only." You can google "R + L = J" if you want to read more, but be careful! It's just a theory, though, even the book readers don't know.
