And not to put any blame on the player that was fouled but there's a reason why you shouldn't go to ground that early on a tackle
Technique-wise it's not hard to come in and take a penalty without having played the game prior. They get some warm-up runs in they've passed the ball back and forth a bit.
But it is hard to ramp up your intensity level to match the moment when you've just been sitting on the bench

I know a lot of players would rather look cool/stylish and take the tricky kicks.
If you have the technique and pace, it doesn't matter if the keeper guess correctly.
That being said, if the keeper IS cheating that much to the side you intend on going, you do need to be able to go to both sides. I knew a lot of guys that could put it side netting to the left, but were much less competent going to the right side.
