At some point it's impractical to decide the game with regular soccer. Any other alternative I've ever seen suggested is also tricked up in one way or another. All in all KFTM seems like an okay way to handle it.

Texas shootout. Shooter starts 35 yards out with the ball, GK on the line. Blow the whistle and the the shooter has like 6 seconds to dribble and shoot on the move.

Golden goal. Play the extra time like normal. Then play extra extra tike and every 5 minutes each team drops a player. Eventually it'll be keeper versus keeper.

I think Spain pushed for a while but was gassed...really it boils down to their one player missing 2 golden chances to score
