If you win the ball you win the ball. You can come in and make a play on the ball and then clean the man out and it not be a foul. There are challenges where you are making a play on the ball and contact the player, there are challenges where you are playing both and then there are challenges where you are only contacting the player. and in each circumstance the rule of the game applies differently.

Again, the ball hit the player first, then lloris got some knuckles on it, and then lloris went fist/forearm into the player. Maybe it's a penalty regardless like others have said, but lloris got beat to the ball. So he can sit back and just play the header, or he can get to the ball considerably earlier than the player.

Absolutely not. The LOTG don't say "get ball no foul". It's a huge myth and USSF actually published a memo about 8 years ago to that effect. If you don't get the ball and get the player it's a foul. If you get the ball and player it may still be a foul. You have no right to wipe out another player just because you got the ball first.

No. If you get the ball first and then make contact it may not be. It depends on the contact. It may or may not be a foul.

Mathguy is out here doing work. Any of you who are arguing about whether Lloris got the ball (and he's my keeper for Spurs) need to re-read his posts until they sink in.

It's not your fault; soccer commentary is universally awful and pundits are constantly arguing over horse**** and plain don't know the rules of the game. They literally don't know them. They do the same BS about handballs as they do with fouls like this.

So now that you know there's no "get the ball, it's all good" line in the laws, you too can help dispel this bizarre myth when it comes up! =D

Right. That is what I am saying. And that call usually depends on whether or not it is an attempt (in the referee's eyes) on the ball.
