They may have checked for clear and obvious mistake, but lloris's fist and elbow went through the guy's face to punch the ball. Ouch!

I tried to watch the replay slower than what ESPN gave us. Looks like the player got to the ball first, so by the time lloris arrives, a face is all that's left

Just because he got the ball doesn't mean he can punch someone. This is a foul being given more and more.

So it goes off Portugal's head, glance's off the goalie's hand , then the goalie wipes out the Portugal player.

I don't think getting the ball is the end all - be all of deciding if something is a foul or not, and the way he took out the player would probably always be a penalty.

Keeper has a right to the ball, but they've been using that liberty to destroy dudes en route to the ball. Referees are going to start calling a knuckle sandwich like that more and more.

Well he's been terrible thus far and Mourinho wasn't exactly wrong in him being a passenger. Sanches has looked way better in this first half than Fernandes has been

I like it being called - I never liked the fact that keepers could just bulldoze people as long as they made some vague attempt at "going for the ball".

The old adage "but ai got the ball first!" Is a huge myth. Getting the ball doesn't mean you then get to clean out the other player. This is a play that traditionally GKs have been given a lot of leeway on. More and more in the last year it's being called. If you punch the ball you can't punch through to another player any more than a defender can slide a ball away and after doing that clean out another player.
