The guy in the office next to me is Scottish. He came to work this morning in a full on kilt. Because of the workload he's watching the game from his office this afternoon.

Who was calling that game on ESPN? Can ESPN not find someone to do play-by-play that can do something besides sitting at the mic spewing inanities for 90+ minutes?

I ask because I see things like the final EPL match day (10 simultaneous games) and all 10 have competent play-by-play guys yet we have "schmucks-r-us" in the booth making Dave South sound coherent.

My Scottish friends (husband and wife) both took the day off. I'm going to watch with them. They will both be drinking heavily and the wife is usually a teetotaler.

I also saw an igloo cooler in the corner of his office. You can use your imagination on what that means.

Normally I'd root for England in something like this. But my allegiance can certainly be bought with a beverage or two.

that England roster is just overwhelmingly better than the Scots, but I'll be rooting for the Scottish upset for sure.

The fun alternate version of the match this afternoon would be for Scotland to run out all their LB's and England to run out all their RB's. NBA Jam-style is kind of what I am thinking. Give both teams a keeper, roll out a ball, and let 'em loose.

That was only a one-off for 2012 when they hosted in London. The Olympic Committee thought it was a bad look to be hosting but appear divided in soccer.

Correction - I just remembered that the UK normally just doesn't participate in the olympics because of the separate FAs, but they felt compelled to compete since they were hosting.

Olympic designation is Great Britain (they go by "Team GB" informally like we do "Team USA")

I think they dont go by United Kingdom because the Irish olympic committee has some partial jurisdiction over the entire geographic territory of the island and Northern Irish athletes can choose either Ireland or Great Britain

Ok. I'm pretty certain they carded the elbow to the head. And the blood was a miss. He should have been told to leave the field to deal with that and not take the PK.

ETA. Technically he has to deal with the blood. The stoppage in play for the card and PK allows him to go change and come back to take it but it's a bad look to take it streaming blood.
