The unfortunate thing about powder is that it doesn't win games. It just sits there the whole season. The mavs always say "we'll get em next year! We will have cap space and nobody else will!". Other teams always have cap space.

Rockets have been shopping Capela and Gordon for a draft pick. Right now the only teams that can do that are the Clippers, Mavs, and Lakers and the Lakers won't do it.
Washington was shopping Beal, because they need to blow it up.
I think there are a lot of potential moves to be made.

I don't mind the Seth Curry signing. He should score easily with Doncic. But we really need a good 3+D wing, and there aren't many left. I'm assuming we are hoping to get Danny Green. But Seth Curry and whatever else we are going to get is alot worse than Beverly/Ross and Bogdanovic.

It wouldn't surprise me if Green had a tentative deal with the Mavs in place in the event that Kawhi goes to LA because Green won't take the vet min when he could get 8-10mm/year.
Dang, these are all nice role players but we really needed another foundational type player and the only "asset" we had left to get one was cap space. I at least wish they would have swung and missed on someone. I just don't know what the front office was doing here.
Dragic may not be off the table. Miami is still over 15mm over the hard cap, which they can't be to bring in Jimmy Butler.

Yeah, this is why I was trying not to freak out after yesterday because there was/is still a path to have a successful off season. The Kelly Olynyk thing was about to push me over the edge though, Kleber is better than that guy. It also looks like my "Plan Powder" theory is going out the window considering the Seth Curry deal is 4 years. I like the deal though. 8M per is reasonable for an elite shooting specialist. That contract can also be traded if need be.
If the Danny Green thing works out (he seems to have a deal in place with Dallas if Kawahi goes LAC/LAL) then the Mavs team building plan becomes more clear. They might be trying to play an extreme version of Morey-ball. Basically just pair Luka with 4 elite shooters:
Seth Curry (45.0% from 3 last year)
Kristaps Porzingis (39.5% from 3 in 2017-2018)
and maybe
Danny Green (45.5% from 3 last year)
Marcus Morris (37.5% from 3 last year) or JaMychael Green (40.3% from 3 last year)
Mavs don't have to be frugal this off-season in order to have enough to go big in two years when Giannis is a free agent. Lee and Hardaway's contracts expire by then and they account for 31 million in cap space. It's next off-season the Mavs will have to be diligent with their cap space. They can go for role players this year that are good enough to get them to a 4-8 seed and then swing for the fences in two years when they've proven their abilities and their support system to Luka/Porzingis.
An all-star could look at that team and think "They're young, they're a middling playoff team and with me they become a contender." Instead of "They're young, and they become a middling playoff team with me."
If the Mavs do nothing more than add defensive and three point specialists this off-season I think they did what they needed to do in the long term as long as those players are 30 years old or younger (as defensive players). or 32 or younger for 3 point specialists.

The $$ is slightly more than i hoped but that 4th year team option more than makes up for it. FANTASTIC deal.

I still don't get how the pacers got brogdon over us....like the curry pickup, but ONLY if we also get Green. Can't believe we're going to be the team at the end of this holding our peckers.

Pacers gave Milwaukee draft picks for Brogdon. That's how they got him over us.

I think it's a HUGE pickup for Indy...surprised it was barely talked about in all the madness yesterday

I don't understand how the Clippers got Miami to attach a future first for Harkless (a starting caliber player on a similar deal as Olynk) when we didn't/couldnt.
