It was the NHC that used the term unsurvivable. I don't disagree with you about the Weather Channel, but in this case that language came directly from the experts at NHC.

NOAA is showing about a 9-11 ft surge at Calcisu Pass, which is no joke, but fortunately looks like Lake Charles got around 4-5 feet max.

I think they severely over estimated based on the size of the storm (small) and the speed of the storm (fast 15-16 mph).

Yikes. That is a huge industrial area. I'm guessing the leak is from the tank farm right off of I10? There's a larger one on the north side and I think a rail yard and smaller chem plants and a few tanks on the south side.

I think PSX has a refinery on the north side along with the huge new Sasol plant and 2 Entergy power plants.

Yea I called as well. I'm trying to figure out if they will re-open tomorrow. Was hoping to get a round in Friday afternoon.

Assuming they didn't take on much water I would assume they will open back up for the weekend.

Also, prayers to those in south Louisiana and Lake Charles area, they really took it on the chin last night. Looks like Beaumont area was spared for the most part, fortunately.

That is a big concern when one of these hits Houston. How many instances like this would we have along the Ship Channel? It will be interesting to see what the petrochemical infrastructure damage ends up being.
