Assuming forecasts are changed to a Houston hit when would I need to leave to avoid Rita evac conditions? Maybe time to plan a couple night midweek vacay at Hyatt Hill Country.

Interesting. It seems like NOAA is showing a LA border arrival but the space city weather guys don't seem convinced.
Some people forget (not on here) that Harvey made land fall about 150 miles from Houston. Definitely not comparable for the wind intensity that could be seen if Laura is close to the area.

I'm supposed to be moving into a new apartment Friday in Spring
It's anecdotal, but, depending on where you are, we had a family friend that went straight south out of south Houston and then worked back north that had a lot better luck than taking any highway going north.

If the early morning update says Houston direct hit, roads will be packed even at noon. Tomorrow afternoon will be terrible.

Slight shift west but keep in mind they are saying there is still a lot of uncertainty. This storm has been particularly difficult for models to nail down.

I'd go early Tuesday or wait until after the storm.
That NHC update puts the center on the north side of Cuba, but others are saying the center is still on south side
No f'ing way I'm taking even a minuscule chance of getting into something like that. I'll ride it out. That's what I have always done.

During Harvey i was living in midtown... left to go see my parents in college station the day before it hit. Couldn't get back for about a week.
If I were evacuating Houston then I would head south.
The tweet was to show the space city weather guy starting to think the storm stays east.
Would that recent NHC update have incorporated data from the hunter planes?
Other than the bear on the seawall the pic that most sticks out in my mind from Ike is

One thing people don't realize is that even the NHS can only report what is mostly likely. Just because what they predict doesn't happen doesn't mean they are wrong. It just means it did what they have a [20%] chance of happening

Mine are 4 and 2 and I have the exact same thought.

Yeah. That is my concern now. During Harvey it was just me and my wife. Now we have a 2 year old and a 9 month old and she is likely to be called in as a nurse to live at the hospital. Just trying to figure out what to do so I can leave when the time is right. I'm not concerned about the wind or the rain. I'm concerned about having two kids and no power and nowhere to get to.
