True, but his bounty would have been cut in half otherwise. Not to mention he now gets his half of the bounty, too.

He basically quadrupled his reward.

You need an arc. I'm fine with an episodic series of stories about life in the post Empire galaxy.

Yeah, but didn't they say they were going to split it at some point? Just seemed like maybe that pointed a bit toward good.

Disney doesn't usually dance within the gray area like a show like Breaking Bad might but they did in Rogue One, so who knows. He is a bounty hunter, so it's hard to imagine he's going to just be a flat out stereotypical good guy.

Can you imagine that instead of him killing a droid at the end of episode 1 it was a flesh and blood bounty hunter?

At best, we're seeing a reluctant hero character, at worst, he's still a bounty hunter. I could see it going either way and that's ok by me.

I don't think bounty hunter necessarily equals bad guy.

Obviously he is in it for the money. Is it just so he can help other orphans and gain some traditional armor? Maybe. Maybe not.

They've set up the idea that hurting / delivering a child is perhaps a bridge too far for him, but I hope it's not that simple.

He seemed to have little remorse for disintegrating three Jawas and throwing a few others to their deaths.

His comfort with killing, also in the opening scene of the series, seems to show he's a bit in the grey. He hasn't killed anyone good, but those Jawas were at worse true neutral characters.

So far it looks like he started as chaotic neutral, and is transitioning to chaotic good.

Caught it this morning on a flight.

Great episode, fun watch, pretty much added nothing to advance the story other than now we know baby Yoda has da force. Still great. I'll take it.

I can't figure out what this show wants to be and I love it. On one hand you have the cutesy Disney/SW angle with baby Yoda. On the other, the Mando is blasting little jawas to bits. Jawas? Everyone loves Jawas. Just when I start to get worried they "Disney'd" this up too much, exploding Jawas. Awesome.

I mean they were dismantling his ship which is his livelihood... It's not like he just rolled into Jawatown and started mowing them down.

Well it's not really a problem currently, that's why I said it's a potential problem.

But if, say, the Mandalorian drops off baby yoda and we don't get any of those answers, and then he goes on some other adventure/mission that doesn't tie-in, then all of a sudden the show feels like it doesn't have anywhere near the stakes that it currently does. That's what I'm saying is potentially concerning for me.

Have you seen Clone Wars and Rebels?

I had the same concerns there (Ashoka and Kanan+Ezra, respectively), but they were able to deal with those potential complications. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt based on how they've been able to navigate that in the past.

Honestly, if it were me, I'd upgrade the rest of my gear, come back, and wipe those Jawas out.

Not just the men, but the women, and the children, too. I hate them.

I absolutely loved that they did this in Rogue One. Ballsy move for Disney. Not to mention killing off every single one of our heroes.

Do female jawa ( or jawi ?) wear a slightly lighter brown coat? I would assume the children are just "shorter"

Right, it's not like Mando is a Jedi or a rebel trooper. But he still extrajudicially disintegrate a few sentient beings. It makes him as not good as it makes him not evil, at least.

I don't know that I'm still completely satisfied with what they did with Ahsoka during the OT timeline. I don't even remember what exactly she was supposed to be doing during events of the movies.

It's still kind of a problem to have a powerful force user of Yoda's species out there. Right now, I care more about where it came, how'd it discover the force and learn to use it, how'd it end up in that compound with a bounty, etc, than I care about the Mandalorian.

She went through one of those portals before the events of Episode IV; think she went to Malachor. That's all we know about her until she reunites with Sabine after the Battle of Endor.

Yep. They're searching for Ezra right?

That isn't until post-ROTJ. She returns to Malachor via the portal (so no idea on time period) at the end of the Rebels timeline before the OT.

this is why i think it was dumb to have a baby yoda and have it force sensitive.

i think people are obsessing too much over the force part than the more likely thing that the baby yoda is just the macguffin to drive the overall season story

Bingo. If they wanted it to be a macguffin they screwed up big time. Knowing Filoni was involved with that 1st episode, though, I bet they have a bigger plan in store. This is the same guy that brought back Maul, after all.

Love the show - up there with Rogue One and some of the cartoons for me.

My only 'complaint' is that I wish that Mando was a bit more of the badass that we saw at the beginning of Ep 1 (walking thru a door and taking out multiple Stormtroopers without looking, kicking two guys' asses in the cantina without breaking a sweat, etc).

Since those scenes, he's had to have his life saved from run-of-the-mill soldiers by an IG droid, and from livestock by Nolte Ugnaut, & Baby Yoda.

A little of that is fine, I can appreciate him being 'human' don't need him to be ridiculously invincible, but I hope this doesn't become the norm - spurts of badassery followed by being saved by a kid who conks the bad guy in the head with a brick or whatever.

I'm probably being overly sensitive, since I immediately started worrying that when the mercenary-looking chick shown in the trailers is introduced, she's going to take over Top Badass spot because Hollywood so brave so strong crap. Mando begins bungling his way through every episode and wise-cracking strong empowered female has to save him from himself constantly.

Yes, I'm worrying about things that haven't happened. But my point about not being thrilled with Mando almost being killed half a dozen times already by what should be minor threats stands.

I like the fact that he's kind of a hack. His armor is second rate, his ship is a piece of junk, and he does get his ass kicked by a large animal now and again. An invincible dude with a jet pack and wrist mounted rockets would be kind of boring.

Noticed on my rewatch of Ep 2 that his knife is a vibroknife. Not an energy blade as if often portrayed, but an actual knife that vibrates to essentially make it "sharper." It's been a staple of gaming and books for decades but I don't think we've ever actually seen it on screen in live action.

A post from a couple of pages back, but I personally think this would rule. Ties I to a lot of things and I think could be done without needing the backstory. Just a white-clad Force user (not a Jedi) and another Mando taking the child to safety would be enough for fans of the show without understanding who they are specifically.

Also ties into a couple of other things. Finding Force sensitive children has been a BIG recurring theme in the expanded canon lately.

Also we're about to see the destruction of Mandalore society in Season 7 of The Clone Wars, so it's another reason to connect things together across the platforms.

As soon as my ship was airborne I would have found the crawler and blasted it to pieces from the sky.
