Was watching ESB last week and had the exact thought. My take is that this is is huge galaxy and the inhabitants are not "earthbound" for lack of a better term. So I guess it is a way for them to portray different biomes and jet from one to the other rather than staying on the same planet. Just my thoughts.

maybe it's because they typically just visit one part of the planet.

or maybe that's how some planets are: Mars is mostly rocky and planets further away from the sun may be covered in Ice.

that being said, they are tending to be mostly the same. Dry, rocky or sand covered locals. One good thing about the prequels is the different planets it introduced.

I dig the single-environment planets. This is not sci-fi, this is fantasy in space.

I think of planets as I do different lands from LOTR.

Mustafar is Mordor. Naboo is The Shire. Coruscant is Gondor. Etc...

No need to make things super complex within each planet. For example, if one area of Kamino is just ocean, but it turns out there's a dry area of Kamino that's a huge jungle, that might be confusing to general audiences that this is supposed to be the same planet.

I've noticed a lot of the single environment planets are actually referred to as moons, which makes sense.

Also i think the out rim is mostly desert planets, the theory is the center of the galaxy has the most resources and what not.

You could actually arm wave this away with a bit of worldbuilding. This galaxy has been inhabited for a long time, so maybe a long time ago some of these desert planets weren't desert planets but over time they were stripped of their resources and abandoned. And that's why there are still imperial outposts, trading depots, whatever.

Like boom planets/moons.

Throw in "it's a western so there's an abundance of desert planets" and you have all the explanation you need.

If anyone needs more of an explanation than that I'd say they are massively overthinking what Star Wars is
