finished season 1 rewatch today, getting more and more pumped for s3. it's looking like it's gonna be a helluva ride. almost all of the clips in that trailer i can remember from the book, which is a great sign

yeah, i really enjoyed his reviews for the first 8 episodes of season 1 cause it was such a fresh, authentic non-reader perspective. but after ned dies, you can tell he just loses his love for the show. even all thru his season 2 reviews he would not catch on to obvious things (like never realizing that the hound left KL because of the fire), go on long pointless rants about Sansa cause she was being too "helpless", critique stupid stuff like that the battle of blackwater wasn't big enough, etc. really just got on my nerves...though i might see if he keeps going with season 3 just to watch an even bigger meltdown for the RW

I won't begrudge him a Sansa rant because until AFFC she's not an easy character to like.

Sansa never had a chance. First all the queens manipulation and now littlefinger.i don't see how she is going to break free of littlefinger's traps.
I am re-reading book 1, and trying to really pay attention to all the foreshadowing and visions, etc. before bran woke back up he dreamt he was falling and saw all the world. There is a bit about seeing Jon at the wall as his skin grew pale and hard as all memory of warmth left his body. Could this be the literal of being in a cold environment all the time or symbolic of what happens to Jon in adwd?

I just had this crazy thought. Ya know how the Wall protects itself (its a theme) and you know how Bran is a tree; what if Jon warged into the Wall.

Seriously, if Jon wargs into The Wall, then GRRM has lost his damn mind. Warging into Ghost is one thing, but Jon becoming an inanimate object would just be ridiculous (and I know about Bran and his Weirwood).

So it looks like Jon's story gets as far as the Queenscrown escape, but do they have the battle at Castle Black this season or next? Also was that castle shown at the beginning just Dragonstone?

rewatch of the first 4 episodes of s2 this weekend, trying to space it out til the start of s3. not as good as s1 i think, but better than i remember when watching it live
one thing that surprised me is how much i'm warming up to the new Shae. she was such an easy character to hate in the books, even before her last scene - that will probably be an even more heartwrenching moment for TV-tyrion at the end of season 4, since they made their relationship a lot more 'real' in the show

I had a discussion with my SIL about the red wedding. She's a pretty big Robb fan but she's never read the books and is following the shows. I did my best not to spoil it for her, but it was so hard not to.

agreed re: barristan, my guess is that they'll lose the whole "arstan" thing (and i also doubt strong belwas will be there, unfortunately...too expendable a character) and he'll be recognized on sight by jorah...which will be interesting to see play out cause it's definitely different.
although it may be one of those things that's a secret to dany and jorah, but not to the audience. heck throw a beard on him and a lot of audience members might not even remember who it is
