I'm really curious as to what they do for the season finale now. Considering that the episode is titled "Mhysa", I'm guessing we get the Yunkai surrender and Dany marching to Mereen.

What else? Coldhands?

I'm thinking they are replacing Mereen altogether with Yunkai. Maybe I'm wrong, but they already combined much of those events about taking the cities into one plot.

great link. Thanks MW!

America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedom and our way of life. We did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive.

Yep pretty sure Yunkai = Mereen in the show.

The only major characters worth rooting for now are Arya, Tyrion, Jon, Dany and Jaime. Should I now expect all of them to die because GRRM's overriding motivation is to avoid being predictable?

That's my concern for the rest of the story. Its obvious that GRRM doesnt know exactly where he's going with ASOIAF. He may know how he wants it to end, but not how to get there. Combine that with the fact that GRRM has a lot of contempt for his fans - he loves them when they worship him but doesn't like to be challenged by them.

I can easily see him killing off characters like Sandor Clegane and the Blackfish because they are fan favorites and for no other reason, along with the major characters. I'm worried that part of the massive delays have been him trying to figure out how to change the ending because fans have already figured it out, and trying to retcon it in a way that makes sense.

Ultimately, I don't think he'll finish the books, but I hope he does - and I hope he'll tell the story he meant to tell all along.

The previews seemed to show the scene in which Bran meets Sam at the Nightfort, so if the show sticks with the book here it would seem likely Coldhands shows up.

One (meaning a reader) would think Sam wouldn't know about the secret way through the Wall w/o meeting Coldhands...although Sam did say he read about a bunch of stuff in a book.

I don't know how they make Yunkai=Mereen. That means Dany isn't going anywhere for the next 3 Seasons except to mess around with Daario. They have shown Mereen on the Maps on the HBO site as well.

If anything I think they will extend out her journey to Mereen so she isn't just stuck in one city forever as she is in the books (to be fair, she isn't in Book 4 at all but they can't do that in the show)
redline248
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Season 4 can be her taking rule of Yunkai, dealing with the sons of the harpy and learning how to hold court.

Season 5, when they combine books 4 and 5 can be her dealing with Quentyn and the guy she decides to marry and end with her riding away on Drogon.

I dont know...

Think about it, she's only ever on screen for like 5 minutes in most episodes...she was in Astapor for, what, 3 episodes? They can drag it out.

The producers have said they only intend on doing 7 seasons, so I would not be surprised if they start on her book 5 storyline next season.

they also still haven't brought in the jorah/betrayal angle...that's gonna fill a lot of screen time, it's good dramatic tension for TV
aggie93
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm sure they will, they have to as she only has a couple of chapters of Book 3 left to work with and she isn't in Book 4. My question is more about the 2 Seasons after that where they are really going to be having trouble dragging her story out. Readers are going nuts with the Mereenese Knot, Viewers will go BSC.

I can't wait to find out who will be cast as Victarion in Season 4. I think Ray Stevenson (Titus Pullo) would be a bad ass choice for the character.

Victarian is a great character and will be excited to see who is cast for the role. i am not sure on Ray stevenson though. seems too jacked/huge for the role of a longship commander who spends most of his time on the sea. the iron islanders always striked me as the lean, mean type of people with razor sharp features. somsone that looks like they could survive on salt and bread alone.....imho i think they will cast some icelandic/baltic type actor that is relatively unknown to the US.

For some reason I pictured Victarian as thinner and tall. Not meaty, like Ray Stevenson, but still strong.

I imagined someone with the look of Michael Wincott, thin and agile, gruff and dark

Thunder18
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Stevenson could work...Victarion wears full armor on board because he isn't afraid to drown so I think he could pull that off pretty well being a big dude

track 17 on the season 3 soundtrack is called Heir to Winterfell

we may get some of that in the show still
jenn96
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I suspect we may get unCat in the season finale to provide some sort of "happy" ending to that arc - that the Freys will pay for their treachery, at least a little.* It's going to be a downer of a season finale most likely, so they may do it to throw the viewers a bone.

*Alas, when they learn that unCat is even more aggravating than Cat.
Mega Lops
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I hope they do show Beric finding her, bringing her back to "life" and capturing a Frey to kill.

That was probably already played for the scene in which Bran sends Rickon on his merry way.

Impossible. unCat has only appeared in like 2 chapters since her "death", and all she's done is try to hang Brienne. She may end up becoming more aggravating, but it's too early to tell at this point.

Don't forget the Bran/Rickon scene centered on them both being heirs to Winterfell.

Why is BoCH over on the other thread arguing that certain lords are higher than others just because their lands are "Kingdoms"? Is that supported anywhere in either the book or the show? Edmure Tully is a bad match bedcause he is lord of the Riverlands which isn't a "kingdom" never mind that when the ironborn were conquered by the Targaryens....the were kings, ruling from their castle....in the Riverlands....gasp.

The Riverlands are weak and have been so for centuries, hence why they are no longer a Kingdom.

George Martin on the Riverlands ability to stay independent of other Kingdoms:

quote:
The riverlands are more problematic. With no real natural boundaries, the riverlands are vulnerable to attack from all sides, which is why their history has been so full of blood and tumult.
