Well here is the problem, do you believe Varys just sets things in motion and let's them play out with little to no help?

I'm not sure he expected Dany to do well or even survive. It seems he likes aegon more than Dany or viserys. We can say the cheesemonger wanted Dany to have the stones to turn to dragons or that was just an accident. I think Varys hedges his bets at every corner.

Varys has always been working with Illyrio to get Aegon on the Iron throne. I think they didn't do much to help Dany and Viserys, and I think possibly marrying Dany off to Drogo was a ploy to have the petulant Viserys killed off and placate the (at the time) timid Dany. When Illyrio found out Drogo and Viserys were dead and Dany was the mother of dragons and had a significant force backing her, he saw it as an opportunity to send Aegon to her so they could wed, the traditional Targaryan way, however she was stalled, so the headstrong Aegon took his birthright, as the a Blackfyre to lead the Golden Company to retake the iron throne (speculation based on pretty good evidence).

It's nothing against Aegon or Stannis from a character perspective, but more from a practical perspective, that makes me believe there's no way they come out on top. Martin had to have known, to some extent, how he wanted the story to end when he started it. We've had POVs from Jon, Tyrion and Dany all throughout.

It'd just be from left field to have a relative late-comer like Victarion or Margaery or a Martell take and hold the throne til the end.

A *******, a dwarf and a woman, each dramatically overcoming the odds. It does have a rather poetic, if clichéd, appeal to it.

Manderly is a ruthless mother ****er. I can't wait for Stannis to get to winterfall so they can team up after reclaiming the north. He will make a nice warden paramount of the north for Stannis while Rickon is still young.

If he is a Blackfyre then he has no chance in hell of winning. I'm not sure i really buy into that theory. I actually believe he is who vary's says he is.

To me whoever sits on the throne (it will be Stannis) is almost inconsequential compared to the story we are about to get with the others but honestly with Martin if it did happen i wouldn't be surprise at this point.

One thing is for certain, Martin created so many threads that there is just no way to guess how it all wraps up.

Although the theory could definitely be wrong, it appears unlikely that it is. The prophecy of the mummer's dragon, the fact that the Golden Company, who was created by and for the Blackfyres, breached a contract to follow a child across the narrow sea, the lack of evidence to prove he is actually a targ.

Mummer's Dragon to me mean's Vary's Dragon not that he is disguising himself as a dragon. Also how would the golden company know he was a blackfyre when no one else says it? If it is some grand conspiracy that is a hell of a lot of people to let in. Hell two people knew the truth about Joffery, they never said anything, and look at what happened. The lack of evidence proving he is a targ applies both ways. Finally i see no way that Jon Connington, Rheagar's best friend has been fooled for that long. I've read the threads on westeros and i just don't buy it.

While I respect your opinion, do you think the Golden Company would breach their contract for any person that walks in and says the want to be king of westeros (keep in mind that them breaking their contract came as a huge surprise to everyone)? What would be the point of Viserys and Dany walking around for 10 years when they could've gone straight to them? And the Golden Company are full of westerosi exiles that made it their mission to eventually put a Blackfyre back on the throne, I don't think it'd take much for the leaders of the sellswords to keep a secret, there is probably no more than 10 people that need to be involved to make this plan work. And to your point about Connington, Jon knew Rhaegar, not Aegon. You're telling you'd be able to tell who your friends infant child is if someone showed up on your doorstep with a kid that had the same hair color as him and you had no picture to remember your friend by?

The Golden Company is deeply tied to the Blackfyres and hated the Targs, they had no interest in Viserys or Dany for instance. Here is the Wiki history:

quote:
The Golden Company was founded by Aegor Rivers, called "Bittersteel", a legitimized ******* of King Aegon IV, after he fled Westeros with the younger sons of Daemon Blackfyre at the end of the Blackfyre Rebellion. When Aegor saw all the exiled lords and knights signing on with other sellsword companies, such as the Ragged Standard or the Maiden's Men, and saw the support of House Blackfyre ebbing away, he created his own sellsword company. Since then they have fought mainly in the Disputed Lands.

The Golden Company is said to be made up of exiles and the sons of exiles. The Golden Company were once headed by Maelys the Monstrous, the last of the Blackfyre Pretenders.[2][3] During the War of the Ninepenny Kings Ser Barristan Selmy cut a bloody path though the Golden Company's ranks to slay Maelys the Monstrous in single combat.

Their war cry, "Beneath the gold, the bitter steel" pays homage to their founder.

Daenerys recalls that her brother Viserys Targaryen once feasted the captains of the Golden Company in the hopes they might take up his cause. They ate his food and heard his pleas and laughed at him

Today's the day the innocence dies. The day peach fuzz faced youth turn to hardened, battle-weary souls, husks of their former selves. The day children lose the men they used to know as their fathers and fathers lose their sons. There will be no turning back for them, and I relish in it.

Today feels like Christmas.

Let's put some bets down for when the first "I'm done with this show" comment appears on the non-spoilers thread. I'm thinking price is right style, closest to the number without going over. Winner gets Internet points. I'm thinking 11:12 pm ct, tonight.

I think it'd be awesome if the wedding went off without a hitch and ended with Frey and Robb linking and raising their hands in front of a huge army at the Twins. The book reader meltdown would be epic.
