Is the dude with the eagle supposed to be the show version of Sixskins?

Yes.

Kind of an odd change, right?

Not unless you think HBO should have a trained bear, shadowcat, and three wolves on set.

When you as a book reader answer, then there is no room for speculation or conversation.

Sure there is.

There is if you want to act like you are cool for knowing what is going to happen and giving hints to people who don't know. I would imagine 95% of readers were like me, ready to shoot Patchface and his little songs as annoying as hell until much later figuring out they were actually a prophecy. Unless you knew that was Martin's style (leaving complex and subtle hints early in the story to fortell later parts of the story) it's nearly impossible to figure out at first glance.

For instance, you could post the words to the song and be fine. When you go and post the words and then tell them the meaning of the words that is over the line. It's not about how she was singing about something that already happened, it is about how you are telling the show watchers "If the girl starts signing it is a prophecy! You need to listen and analyze her words!" Let them figure that out themselves.

You just do a lot of pointing folks in the right direction over there which I don't get. If you want to speculate come here to speculate. Over there it should be more stuff like answering the questions on how inheritances worked for Robert to Joff and such.

Didn't they call him Orell in the show? And isn't Orell the name of the warg wildling who had the eagle before Sixskins had control and also hated Jon Snow and attacked him?

Also worth mentioning that Varamyr sounds a lot like Varys and Viserys. HBO will change a name when they have to (Asha = Yara).
BTKAG97

In the book, Orell was the one killed by Jon Snow. Varamyr warged with the same eagle afterward and could sense Orell's presence.

In the show, Orell is playing Varamyr's role.

Isn't the Sixskins bit at the end of one of the books where folks get the speculation that Jon wargs into Ghost at the end of ADWD?

I guess my question is really this:

HBO supposedly knows Martin's story. A lot of people speculate that at the end of ADWD, Jon wargs into Ghost at the last second, similar to what Sixskins did at the end of his POV prologue. If HBO is minimizing Sixskins in the series and they do not show Sixskins warging into his wolf, can we put to bed the notion that Jon wargs into Ghost at the end of ADWD?

Goodness, I am paranoid that I post on the non-spoiler thread every damn time. Talk about checking it twice... jeez.

Greeze06

Correct on the story but I don't see them combining roles as minimizing it. Makes sense to do it for the series plus they've gone inyo more detail explaining warging.
MW03
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I suppose you are right in the sense that they could very easily explain the warging at death in a couple of succinct lines of dialogue. Not sure how they would show it anyway.
AggieSouth06

Jon warging into Ghost and not getting to take on Ramsay directly would be lame. Dany staying in Essos for any longer would be lame. Arya staying brainwashed and not wanting to take revenge for her family would be lame.

CAN'T SOMEBODY IN THIS SERIES GET PISSED OFF ABOUT SOMETHING AND QUIT MOPING??

Was something spoiled over there?

I don't think so. I just think it's funny that some folks INSIST on trying to fill in the gaps, while others are trying to be coy and play the misinformation game. This Revival guy asks about what the song means, and BTK says:

quote:
Revival03, I can only answer part of your question.
quote:
The shadows come to dance
My lord
The shadows come
To play
The shadows come to dance
My lord
The shadows come
To stay

Is prophetic of the shadow Melisandre "births". Yes, HBO used it way after the fact.

ADDED: To clarify, the song should have been used in Season two instead of Season 3. Because of the timing issue, HBO may have something else in mind, but I won't speculate.

That makes me laugh because half the boners over there are complaining time after time that people continually reference the books vs. the show, and yet here we are again, comparing the books to the show.

Then you get BOCH posting this:

quote:
Good catch. I figured the song was about dragons...scaled, beaked, winged beasts... (isnt the evolutionary link fish and birds: lizards?)

"The stones crack open" = Dany's eggs
"Shadows come to play" = the age of magic has returned.

And the fact that her mother and her were in Dragonstone (Targaryen) forever makes me think thats where/why she picked up the song.

I could be wrong.

That's just trolling, and BOCH admitted as much in this thread.

quote:
BTW, this isn't that thread. Stop bringing it up over here.

No. I can't bring it up over there because an astute watcher would surmise that by pointing out what yall are doing is in and of itself a "tell" about what might happen.

I didn't want them seeing the song as foreshadowing. That ruins the surprise. If anything I'm keeping them from spoilers. I'm a white knight.

I don't want to interrupt the meltdown the RW will bring.

none of the lyrics in the song at the end of last week's episode reference the red wedding.

btk, you probably shouldn't answer those types of questions on the other thread. stick to answering stuff like "what was that guys name who.....?"

Nothing has been spoiled from what I've seen on that thread... pretty touchy group over there.
redline248
How long do you want to ignore this user?
it's pretty simple really, they have asked not to give ANY background info from the books. the show may come back and fill in blanks later, and if info is provided that we think is past, and then the show comes back and covers that...it's a type of spoiler.
riley290
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You don't know what has been spoiled or not because until the show reveals it you don't know what type of background info is going to be later talked about.

Good example was the Qyburn thing on the first page of that thread that had to get edited, its like the bookreaders heard the name and had to give every detail about who the guy was...don't have to be a genius to see the show is going to do that and they will tell the story like they want.

Also, steering the conversation sucks when know what is important later.

you definitely set off major envy for most of us here. Congrats and enjoy

Also, is it too early to start complaining about the two week break between episodes 8 and 9 this season?

Well that just ruined my freaking evening. It's killing me as it is to act like the RW is not coming to my Non Reader wife, now I get to wait an extra week?
AggieSouth06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Call me crazy, but I'm not looking forward to the RW episode. I hate that part of the story and think it marks the exact moment when GRRM stopped following a linear story just for the sake of being unpredictable.
BillOnCapitolHill
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Linear? Having a bunch of POV characters all with competing motives is the exact opposite of linear IMO.

I dont think Robb dying (a non-POV character) could even interrupt the flow of other characters. Just requires them to change assumptions about their power and position in the world.

The only two POV characters that have to change direction are Sansa and Arya. If Robb isnt dead Arya doesnt go to Braavos. Robb's death means Sansa cant go home, ever, she becomes the key of the North, not just a ransom.
aggie93
How long do you want to ignore this user?
To me the RW isn't something I look forward to per se, it just is when the story really begins imo. The RW just is such a shocking departure from how you think a story would normally be told and thus it makes you re-think everything.

I just reread the red wedding last night. such a crazy event. there's so much leading up to it, too. at the end of one of arya's chapters the hound says "the bloody wedding" and the end of another he says "your bloody brother." both before they get to the twins
PatAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Bloody is a common english colloquialism to stand in for our "stupid" or "fracking". Not everything is a symbol.
redline248
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I know it's pretty common, I just found it interesting that both those chapters finished the exact same way
AggieChemist
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Nice find. I don't think GRRM does things like that by accident.

Also, lots of butthurt in the other thread.

Pretty good episode this week, definitely did not see that coming.

There are actual spoilers this week even if you've read the books, I look forward to the comments tonight.
