I think we will see Howland Reed in the books soon as part of Jon's storyline but ideally the whole rebellion would be covered in a series of books.

bump for ep. 3 tonight

i'm thinking jaime will lose a little weight tonight...

the lannister boys, they're the ones karstark kills right
redbaron788

And that. was. greatness!

Everything except that piece of s*** Mighty Mighty Bosstones song they played at the end. What in the name of hell was that garbage.

And yes, I know it was The Bear and the Maiden Fair, but why that godawful version?
Elliot P. Campbell
How long do you want to ignore this user?
damn, pretty awesome episode

the only scene that i was going to be pissed about the was the weird podrick scene where tyrion was introducing the hoars, but the "mereenese knot" comment made it so worth it

How long do you want to ignore this user?
They are really throwing a curveball with Theon's "escape."

I was really hoping to see Astapor burn tonight. They did a good job making Edmure look like a bumbling idiot.
Elliot P. Campbell
How long do you want to ignore this user?
a curveball to who? it's following what happened to him in the books (or at least it's consistent with the Reek flashbacks in ADwD). the "boy" helping him is clearly Ramsay

unless you meant a curveball to non-readers, in which case i totally agree

Mereenese knot made me laugh

Looks like we are one week away from Astapor burning and the Rebellion at Craster's. They are moving through the story at a pretty good clip. Not sure how it's going to take 20 episodes to cover SoS. I'm assuming books 4 and 5 start making their way into next season.

Damn good episode.

Really liking the blackfish.

The only way its consistent with the books is that Theon doesn't know the escape attempt is a ruse

I was a little mad that the Blackfish didn't make an appearance earlier, but all is forgiven now. The actor playing the Blackfish nailed it.

Blackfish was awesome. I like that they almost made me think they were going to change a very big plot point, then WHAM.
Losman

Blackfish motto seems to be Deeds not Words.

I also enjoyed the looks on the small council as Tywin stared at them with a I'm going to hang each one of you unless you prove your worth to me. That is how a Hand stays alive.

Fugging awesome episode.

I even laughed and enjoyed the strange modern-ish version of the Bear and the Maiden Fair.

The scene where the small council walks in, choose their seats, and Tyrion takes the one furthest away and at the other head was great. As was Pod getting dropped off with the three *****s and "Myreenese Knot" reference.

Not sure I get where they're going with the thing about the sloots not taking the money, though. What am I missing?
redbaron788
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Probly just trying to boost Pods confidence
redline248
How long do you want to ignore this user?
At first I just figured Pod has a giant pod, but now y'all have me questioning the scene as well. maybe tyrion paid them up front and told them to refuse the money from Pod...

where do y'all think Melisandre is going? also, since there has been no Edric Storm in the show, do you think she was talking about Gendry when she told him of someone from his bloodline? the look on stannis's face seemed one of recognition
redbaron788
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeha, pretty sure she is gonna find Gendry but I wonder if they'll keep the leeches or do something else to kill the other kings

I almost didn't recognize her in that scene to the point where I was unsure of if it was the same actress... When has she ever worn so many heavy clothes? I know in the book even at the Wall she doesn't wear much because of the heat R'hllor supposedly gives her internally or some ****. Anyone else find that kind of odd?

Just an observation.
aggie93
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I haven't seen anything that Edric Storm has been cast though Stannis' wife and daughter are cast.

I'm loving the Theon/Ramsay storyline btw. It's a slight departure from the book but really just more fleshing out of the story and showing Ramsay to be a really sick and twisted dude. It also keeps Alfie Allen on the show which is a good thing imo.

BTK - what's up with this quote in the non-reader thread?

quote:
Totally knew character. No clue how they are handling the Theon storyline.

are you just intentionally misleading them?

i'm not sure why some of you are saying theon's storyline is such a departure from the books. ramsay and crew still sacked winterfell (the appearance of rodrik and his men were shifted a bit but that didn't change much) and are now holding theon. the guy "saving" him is obviously ramsay playing the same little escape game that was referenced in the books. in fact this could be 100% what GRRM intended to have happened to theon, we just never saw it on-screen. it all builds up to making the Reek character from ADwD

Tyrion dragging the heavy chair across the floor was greatness.... as was the Meerenese Knot.

PatAg, you realize that when someone makes a "guess" and you say that person has obviously read the books, it's the same thing as telling them the spoiler yourself, right?

I liked the modern version of "The Bear and The Maiden Fair" played at the closing credit. Here's an article about the group who performed the song.

'Game of Thrones': The Hold Steady to perform 'The Bear and the Maiden Fair'

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Hated the song at the end, it kind of took me away from what had just happened with Jaime. Honestly I think silence would have been best because it was such a shock (though obv as a reader I knew it was coming but the look on my non reader wife's face was awesome). I liked the "Rains of Castemere" they did last season that was more acoustic/acapella.

Another departure from the books to the show is they had Theon have his fling with Osha instead of the Winterfell chick. In the books they actually let Theon and his chick stay together in the Dreadfort. Then they escape together and Ramsay tortures her to death while just getting warmed up on Theon. I think there biggest challenge for Theon/Ramsay will be extending out the storyline as they really are kind of out of the action for some time. The good thing is they are setting up Ramsay to be such a sadistic MF'er. I wonder how far they will take the torture scenes.

MW03

Looks like Diana Rigg has tested so well as the Queen of Thorns that they are doing a rewrite just to get her more lines and scenes. Pretty interesting.

quote:
And her zingers have been so good -- quite as deliciously sharp as those of Maggie Smith on "Downton Abbey" -- that the show's writers have expanded her role. They've added scenes between Lady Olenna and Tywin Lannister (pairing her again with Dance) and the equally sharp-tongued Tyrion (Peter Dinklage).

That's one battle (of wits) scene we can't wait to see!

It is not obviously Ramsay. Keep them guessing.
BTKAG97
How long do you want to ignore this user?
There's been very little mention of Ramsay in the show.
Elliot P. Campbell
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Idk, it seems obvious to me. especially with that one bolton guy saying ”you *******”. And there's been a lot of articles hinting at that actor ending up being ramsay

And yeah we haven't heard that name but roose has mentioned ”my *******” several times

Either way, regardless of what exactly happens, I'm greatly enjoying the theon stuff. Alfie is doing a fantastic job with that character
BTKAG97
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Put yourself in the shoes of a non-reader.

How many times has Ramsay been mention in the show? And most of those times he was called Bolton's *******.

Agreed. And I couldn't stand the Theon character.
