One thing that stuck out was could this be the letter to the Frey's he was writing?

That is what I thought as well - since he did say that he would do anything to get his son back, just as he wrapped up sealing the letter.

Now I just hope D&D have the balls to alter Dany's story and not write themselves into the same corner GRRM did.

Can you imagine telling tv viewers that after tonight Dany doesn't do much besides fawn after a blue haired dude and fight the diarrhea plague for 2.5 books.

I wouldn't mind her conquering a few extra cities on her way to Meereen and reduce the time of her dawdling around to a couple episodes.

That image of Dany silhouetted against the burning sky as Jorah was about to walk up to her and then didn't was one of the best looking shots in this series to date. So awesome.

I predict they will be caught up with where the books are by the end of season 5. They'll have elements of books 3-5 weaving into next season, and churn through the most important plotlines from 4 & 5 in season 5. There's just no way they are going to sit Dany in Mereen for 2 solid seasons. Honestly, there is a ton of stuff from books 4 & 5 that I wouldn't miss if they cut it.

I'm certain we'll get to see her take Yunkai. I don't remember if there were any other cities of significance between Astapor and Meereen. It would be very cool if the writers added something else. But Yunkai and then Meereen are probably enough for the writers to have fun with.

Hopefully they slow down Dany's storyline. I hope we don't even get to Yunkai this season or at least just touch on the beginning of it. Otherwise the next few seasons are going to be incredibly brutal with Dany. Her story just sucks after Yunkai.

BTW, lots of fun on the Non Spoiler thread reading how they are trying to figure out who "the boy who is with Theon" is. They are sure of one thing, he can't be a Bolton. After all he killed those Bolton men! It's going to be delicious watching them realize what a sick and twisted dude Ramsay is. I just wonder how far they will push the limits of the show in terms of torture and flaying.

with last episode this season titled Mhysa, we're getting to Yunkai by episode 8 if not earlier

in the books Ramsay was with Theon when he kills the orphans, and I interpreted as him giving theon the idea. so theon telling him in the show is no big deal.

the nonreaders certainty of the boy not being a Bolton is hilarious

Theon Ramsay: Loving this added little storyline though it was interesting that he admitted to not killing Bran and Rickon as that is not in the books. Ready for folks to start to learn just what a sick and twisted dude Ramsay is.

In the books, isn't it Ramsey (acting as Reek) who gives Theon the idea to substitute the two boys for Bran and Rickon? Theon telling Ramsey about not killing them in the show, just gives Ramsey the knowledge that he already had in the books.

This along with Catherine's speech to Rob's wife gives kind of gives me the feeling that the show may potentially spoil things that are in upcoming books.

Wasn't the Varys backstory from a future book? I can't remember when his past came out.

Loved the wizard in a box haha

Very good episode!!!

Yeah i got my timelines wrong. I guess the addition of the sorcerer was to add effect to the point he was trying to make about biding your time but it leads me to guess that the most likely person who would have sent it to him would have been Illyrio Mopatis.

The scene with Varys and The Queen of Thorns was great. The three-way conspiracies between those two and Littlefinger are the best chess games in the book.

Theon's revelation on Ned being his father and making him more sympathetic i guess is also a necessary change for TV. His story was great in the book but there wasn't anything type of redemption for him as a character until book 5, which would probably be harder to do in this medium.

Edit: i am absolutely shocked no one has mentioned the red wedding so far in the non-spoilers thread and hope that it isn't even hinted at. I cant wait to see the reactions.

so, in the book, I had a sense all along that old man frey was going to have something up his sleeve. until catelyn made a big deal about having eaten and the guest rights. I thought no way Frey would go against that old and wide spread custom

finally watched it - pretty damn good.

astapor was pretty awesome, Clarke nailed that scene. she's great at the really intense, crazy Dany.

also, the dude who plays ramsay...he has the potential to be legendary at that role. the expression on his face when Theon started getting tortured again was just psychotic

a little let down by the fact that the old bear's death was so sudden and not that emotional...we might get some good sam & gilly scenes soon tho

both tyrell women are so brilliant at their roles, and the writers have had a lot of fun with them. i like the idea of sansa married to loras, removes some auxiliary character that we never see in the books anyway. tyrion/sansa will be set up next episode, it looks like

the whole BwB scene was great! next week should be ****ing awesome.

looking forward to a little kissed by fire goodness next week...

Frey is on the level of a kinslayer. Bottom of the barrel imo.

One thing I have found interesting is looking at the Viewers Guide on HBO.com. It changes each year. The first 2 seasons it had Willas, now it just has Loras as a son of Mace Tyrell. It also no longer lists Greatjon Umber at all whereas he was formerly listed as a Stark bannerman so he must be permanently gone from the show.

Best episode of this season thus far. I'm really liking the changes to what's going on in Kings Landing. The Tyrell women are great manipulator's and playing up littlefinger's plan and the power he's accumulating is fun to see.

I hope dany's story gets a very thorough retelling... If they had her sack a few cities, then wrote out mareen and found an entirely new way to get her from the east to westeros I'd be happy.

You know, to start off with, I really thought that that the posters of the non-spoiler thread should be given a wide berth, but many of them are dbags.

Whoever The Debt is, please keep it up, the asshurt from people in the other thread is hilarious.

are there any theories on who the man was that stayed in the cave with bran, hodor and the reeds? the one bran thought was a Liddle. random nobody? that's not really Martin's style...
AgDev01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
GRRM confirmed he was a Liddle but his importance or if he even will be is, i believe, still unknown. My only guess would be that person may play a part in the story is Davos is successful in finding Rickon.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
So does anyone see this playing out differently? Because there's no way the show doesn't get way out ahead of the books.

S1 - GoT
S2 - CoK
S3 - SoS Part 1
S4 - SoS Part 2, FfC/DwD Part 1
S5 - FfC/DwD Part 2
(Pure speculation below)
S6 - WoW Part 1
S7 - WoW Part 2, DoS Part 1
S8 - DoS Part 2

The post-RW section of SoS in no way warrants a full season. They will be well into FfC and DwD by the end of Season 4. And I just can't fathom how they drag out the FfC and DwD storylines over more than 1.5 seasons.

There's no way that's possible given where the storylines are now, 4 episodes into SoS.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
They may not get a full season out of SoS Part II but they can come close, depending on how things end up.

You have the battle at Castle Black with Ygritte being killed. You have Bran meeting with Coldhands and at the Nightfort. You have Dany arriving at Mereen after Yunkai. You have all the drama at KL leading up to the Purple Wedding including Jaimes arrival back at KL and Tyrion and Sansa playing at being married. You have the Red Viper. You have the Purple Wedding itself which is likely a full episode. You have the buildup to Tyrion's trial and the trial itself with the battle between the Red Viper and The Mountain. You have Dany setting up to rule in Mereen. You have the second battle at Castle Black when Stannis arrives. You have Arya and the Hound meeting up with the folks at the Inn where she kills them and gets Needle back and then going out in the woods leaving the Hound for dead. Then she boards the ship for Braavos. You have Jon being elected LC. You have Sansa escaping with LF. You have LF marrying Lysa. Then you have the big reveal with Lysa that ends in her being thrown out the Moon Door. You have Tyrion killing his father. Then of course you have Cat being back to life and killing the Frey in the Epilogue.

That's quite a bit of action and though they will certainly put some Season 4 in it they can also slow it down.
