Week after week, Texas A&M softball continues to take another step.
Given the Aggies’ difficulties in close games and against top-15 opponents this season, Texas A&M’s series win over then-No. 11 Georgia could be classified as a leap.
As a result, the Maroon & White keep rising in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll, coming in at No. 13 in Week 9.
There are challenges that come with playing a whole series in less than 30 hours, but Trisha Ford’s Aggies appeared hungry for victory after falling just shy of a series win in Austin.
In the opener, Sydney Lessentine set the tone, pitching six innings of two-run ball. She would go on to throw 11.2 frames against Georgia’s top-20 offense, allowing just three runs.
Another Sidne rose to the occasion to earn the save in both of A&M’s wins. Ford has desired consistency from her pitching staff, and Sidne Peters slammed the door in both one-run wins.
Hitting .325 as a team, the Aggies’ offense remained sufficient against the likes of Bulldog ace Addisen Fisher & Co.
As for freshman Maddie Sauni, she was ready all weekend when he number was called. As a pinch hitter, she went 3-for-4 with two RBI, with both coming in one-run games.
With four SEC series in the books and four to go, the Aggies hope to keep improving week in and week out.
That continues on Wednesday as the McNeese Cowgirls come to town for a 6 p.m. CT matchup before A&M travels to Ole Miss for a three-game set.
