I wouldn't say the Stark line is entirely dead yet. The whole Jon being part Targaryean leaves the possibility open, Sansa is still a possibility but I agree with the above poster that it seems fishy ...

And crap. I forget the name ... The guy that Davos went to talk to that faked Davos' death? The grossly overweight Lord of ... Is it White Harbor? Didn't he also have some sort of master plan with a lot of the Northern lords to have Rickon placed as King in the North? That possibility is still there.

But as the story continues to grow, the Stark relevance continues to shrink. The story is going to shift the main focus on Dany as the last two books come out. And I still fully expect there to be some sort of alliance/marriage/interaction of note between Dany and Jon, plot changing.

and it was Tormund climbing the wall.

Why would they have Tormund climb the wall. I think it would be more epic to watch the wall "defend itself".

-dany with the unsullied army (i think that matches the timeline), plus a bigger dragon!

The preview was not in chronological order. The dragon scene when when they were on Illyrio Mopatis's ships heading back to Pentos before Daenerys decided to change course to Astapor.

Maybe finally shows stoneheart with dondarion

Didn't Beric die reviving Cat? I'm rereading the books and just started on Book 4 last week.

what was up with the super old lady that a few of the travelera ran into around sto ey sept?

As stated, she is the Ghost of high Heart. She is a prophet and is used in the books to set up story lines. That's basically how GRRM uses prophets. "Sneak Peaks" if you will.

Manderly.

I posted this elsewhere but I want to know if Cat will make a return at S03E10 or S04E10.

If I have to guess she'll play a larger role than we saw in the books and will return at S03E10...that line we heard about taking from them all that they love will be at her resurrection.

Yes I know that, I meant the timeline of the seasons. Couldn't remember how far into the 3rd book she gets the army.

Started my rewatch last night, i forgot how good the first season was!

Not King in the North, but Rickon would be named Lord of Winterfell and likely Warden of the North under Stannis' rule if Davos & Stannis are successful. As someone else mentioned, it was Lord Manderly.

You're right, I believe I was mistaken, and that would actually be one of the Thenn (who climb the wall to hit Castle Black from the south).

I think you're right about the wall climber being a thenn. Wasn't there a father son or brother brother pairing of thenns?

I'm thinking that scene is when the 3 teams raced to the top of the wall heading south. That is probably the Jarl.

Jon was watching them inch along when he heard the sound -- a sudden crack that seemed to roll along the ice, followed by a shout of alarm....

And when they looked up Jarl and his team were gone.

Fairly early. She "visits" all three slave cities in book 3. I believe she is "being hosted" in Mereen during her first chapter in Book 4.

Side Note Regarding Daenerys.

For anyone who has read through Book 5.

Anybody other than me disappointed with her chapters in book 5? Even though I know she needs time for her dragons to grow, I hated that she "settled down". Yes, her story ended on a "What the hell is she going to do now? Does that mean she is will get her Dothraki horde back?" kind of way, but I was all into her "Conquering Mode" and was underwhelmed by her time in Mereen.

Cat doesn't make her return until Book 4.

I understand using her in Episode 10 would be a nice "recovery" for those who have not read the books who might be hugely turned off by Episode 9, but I think it would be more impactful to use her "resurrection" during a season premier rather than a finally.

I'm not sure what chapters they should use for the Season 3 finale. I don't think they would follow the RW with Joff's wedding one episode later? And as has been posted, Tyrion's trial can easily span a most of a 10 episode season.

Arya's arrival at Saltspear where she gets a ride on a Bravosi ship could be included, but I can't think of any other "wait till next season" kind of chapters would be used.

dany wasn't in book 4

if you meant book 5, then yes i completely agree. her chapters were dull and had a bunch of stupid characters. they got interesting near the end when drogon did his thing with her but there was so much uninteresting buildup

I don't think Jarl will be in the series. Bag O Bones will be Jon's persecutor.

As a note, I think a lot of material from Book 4&5 will blend together. I wouldn't look at those TV seasons as mirroring the books.

I get what you're saying BTK about Cat, but part of me thinks they'll resurrect her at the end of Season 3, and bring more of a role for Stoneheart than in the books.

Two random questions:

1. (Slowly) rewatching the first two seasons. In S1, the title sequence shows Pentos. Does the S2 title sequence show Qarth? If so, I assume S3 will show Slaver's Bay.

2. As someone who has only read through ASOS, should I read 4 & 5 chronologically, or in book order? Heard both sides.
BillOnCapitolHill
How long do you want to ignore this user?
1. Yes it shows qarth. The opening sequence was the first thing I looked for for s2e1. Apparently they only show the venues of places that will be on that episode, so if they don't show anything in winterfell, supposedly it doesn't show in the opening sequence.

2. I would read it chronologically by chapter, book 4 is terribly slow. And you miss ayra, Dany, tyrion for 700 pages if you read book 4 first.
Elliot P. Campbell

i think everyone should have to read book 4, wait five years, and then read book 5, like i did

it's only fair...

A couple things I want to comment on:

quote:
Cat doesn't make her return until Book 4

She appears in epilogue of book 3. How many of you are like my sister and never read that? lol

I've read some theories elsewhere that Jon may have warged into one of the prisoners in the frozen cells. Or that Milasandre skin changed him with someone like she did Mance.

redline248

Oh, about Dany...I also was pretty annoyed with her actions in that book, but remember she is like 15 or so and her hormones are probably controlling her impulses. After how long she wandered with the Dothraki she is probably enjoying a little comfort. It took someone threatening her dragons to snap her back to reality.

Her dragons are kind of like the Starks' direwolves. When they aren't around, bad things happen.

Or Jon dies so he can be released from his watch and Melisandre resurrects him at the cost of her life (a la Beric and Catelyn)
Greeze06

If job warged into anything, as I think he did, its gotta be ghost, a la how sixskins did. I see no other way with the way the book was written.
redline248
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Except six skins ended up becoming only the dog with pretty much his existence being snuffed out. How does that help Jon?

At least, that was how I interpreted the end of that prologue

The question I have is that the end of Season 3 or Season 4.

I'm betting season 3. They're going to want to give the BWOB more screen time throughout the series, similar to the fact we got more Rob screentime than in the book.

Is this true? Season 2 episode 9 was only in King's Landing and yet all the other places were still shown in the opening sequence.

I bet the quoted poster meant for that season, the same intro is used all season long, I thought. maybe they add something here and there
BillOnCapitolHill
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's pretty boring showing KL for 90 secs, so they sometimes throw in filler locations. But the sequence does change episode to episode. Come to think about it I think they are super proud of WF and the heart tree, bc I can't recall an episode where they didn't show it.
BillOnCapitolHill
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I need to go back and see when they did pentos and vaes dothrak, they didn't have anything to signifify the dothraki sea but I think they just showed vaes dothrak between the two locations.
OldArmy07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Listening to the commentary on S02E01, they mentioned that the intro was the same up until episode 6 or 7 when they add Pentos into the mix (I think).

I may be wrong about the location or timing, but I'm certain that it differs slightly as they introduce new locations to the story.
Greeze06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It may change once or twice but it does not change episode to episode. Pretty sure it is seasonal. Last season they showed Pike every episode
AggieSouth06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
So what locations get added to the mix next season? Riverrun, Astapor, Harrenhall (they may have done that one last season), the Frostfangs...?
Greeze06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They did harrenhall last year. Dorne maybe?
Elliot P. Campbell
How long do you want to ignore this user?
hm, not sure if they're doing dorne this season...never saw any casting news about oberyn.

definitely riverrun and astapor, and probably frostfangs. they might even just do "slavers bay" instead of astapor, yunkai, and mereen

pretty cool looking bill. is that supposed to from the end of book 5 in the dothraki sea?
