There's a good discussion on the non-spoilers thread wondering where the White Walkers' army went after the battle at the Fist. What would be the book readers' theory on why they haven't attacked the wall and seem to have disappeared for the moment?

This explains the WWs and the fist of firstmen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKdocYeSqTA

My guess would be because "Winter is Coming" and they won't march on the Wall until Winter is here. At some point in ADWD the maesters at the Citadel delcare that winter has arrived. As such, would expect the White Walkers to attack in force in book six, Winds of Winter.

The wild cards GRRM leaves out there intrigue me. Jon's uncle disappeared. So did Rickon though the Wiki says he's on Skagos. I keep expecting somebody I haven't seen in a couple books to show up and save the day. If course by the time the next book comes out I'll prolly have forgotten.

There's several. But I'm intrigued with those two & their Stark family connections.

Here are the two most important question of the series, imo:

1) Is Littlefinger and the Iron Bank connected?

2) Who contracted the Faceless Men and brought Jaqen to Westeros?

As disappointed with Yigrett's punchy little butt as I was impressed with Brienne's fine anvil ass.

yes, my responses to those two scenes were exact opposites of what I thought they would be.

Yep, the RW is going to be spoiled for anyone on this message board before it ever airs... already someone vaguely talking about it on the general board.

And Bill I don't know the extent of it but considering it was littlefinger who borrowed tons of cash from IB I'd assume there is at least some connection. I feel like IB was just a part of his plan to destroy the realm, he knew those weren't going to be paid.

The Baelish family seal is the colossus head of braavos, the Littlefinger is part braavosi. If his borrowing was intentional for force regime change, one way or another, he is succeeding. We know from the Varys/illyrio conversation in the dungeons that LFs plan was to get the Lannisters and Starks in a war, to what end they didn't know. LF also aides Ned in figuring out the incest. If he went to Robert instead of cersie, the Lannisters would be murdered and Tywin would stop lending Robert gold, thus meaning the IB is the only entity rich enough for Roberts extravagance.

I mean stepping back and counting littlefinger's actions so far it seems pretty clear what he's been doing but I still don't quite understand the end game yet.

1. Borrow massive amounts of debt from IB (still not as much as from Tywin) he knows will be defaulted.
2. Convince Lisa to kill her husband hand and implicate the Lannisters in a covert letter.
3. Frame tyrion for the bran thing.
4. Led Ned through all the clues about the incest, even orchestrating the "Ser Hugh did it and is controlled by the Lannisters" bit.

I think through those actions it was clear that his goal was to gain the Eyrie through Lisa, I think her line of diaglogue, "You told me to put the tears in Jon's wine, and I did. For Robert, and for us!" gives away his intentions that led to book 1. I feel like he may have been setting up for other lands as well due to his position to influence the ruling family and be justified reward.

No clue where he's going with it, I personally don't think he has his eye on the crown and I like this quote of his in ffc.

"What little peace and order the five kings left us will not long survive the three queens, I fear."

I don't quite know who the third queen is, my money is on Dany.

The TV show sometimes proclaims motives far more boldly than the book does to help viewers keep things straight. When Varys said Baelish wants to rule Westeros or watch it burn around him, I think that sums up Littlefinger's goals and motive.

If there's an ulterior motive, I'd say there's a marginal chance he's weakening the kingdom so the White Walkers can easily take over, but I doubt it. I think he's purely motivated by the desire to climb from nothing to the throne to prove wrong everyone who said he wasn't good enough as a child.

I think the only ones in Westeros that are working on behalf of the Others are the Ironborn.

I think their Kraken is the manifestation of the Evil God. And it was their god that led Victarion to the horn to capture the dragons, the only beast to combat the Evil-Ice-God (a la Melisandre)

Yeah, regarding the songs...I imagine most of the non-readers didn't even pay attention to the song. Why would they think it had any meaning?

edit: my "yeah" above was a general filler word to open my sentence, not an answer to your question about anything being spoiled.

I think the guy that brought it up was trying to spoil it saying lotsa death coming.

Deflecting about dragons was fun.

Although remotely possible, I really don't think that's likely at all. More likely, the Kraken, much like the dragons, is a real animal that was lost from the world centuries to millennia ago...or they just haven't shown us one yet. And Victarion wasn't the one who found the horn, that was Euron who is an irreligious man.

So you think a kraken will be featured at some point? If true you have to wonder who gets bit. People on Essos: Dany, Tyrion, Arya?

I guess anyone in Westeros that travels to attack by ship...

I picked up book 3 and started reading again and during a small council meeting Varys mentions an actual Kraken attacked an Ibbenese whaler off the fingers, so apparently they do exist in the books

or it could just be a mistaken report.

But I do remember before I read the books and had just watched a little of season 1 thinking that all the major houses had actual living creatures for their sigils. So far we have seen direwolves and dragons return, maybe the Kraken is next

I don't think so. I just think it's funny that some folks INSIST on trying to fill in the gaps, while others are trying to be coy and play the misinformation game. This Revival guy asks about what the song means, and BTK says:

quote:
Revival03, I can only answer part of your question.
quote:
The shadows come to dance
My lord
The shadows come
To play
The shadows come to dance
My lord
The shadows come
To stay

Is prophetic of the shadow Melisandre "births". Yes, HBO used it way after the fact.

ADDED: To clarify, the song should have been used in Season two instead of Season 3. Because of the timing issue, HBO may have something else in mind, but I won't speculate.

That makes me laugh because half the boners over there are complaining time after time that people continually reference the books vs. the show, and yet here we are again, comparing the books to the show.

Then you get BOCH posting this:

quote:
Good catch. I figured the song was about dragons...scaled, beaked, winged beasts... (isnt the evolutionary link fish and birds: lizards?)

"The stones crack open" = Dany's eggs
"Shadows come to play" = the age of magic has returned.

And the fact that her mother and her were in Dragonstone (Targaryen) forever makes me think thats where/why she picked up the song.

I could be wrong.

That's just trolling, and BOCH admitted as much in this thread.

quote:
BTW, this isn't that thread. Stop bringing it up over here.

No. I can't bring it up over there because an astute watcher would surmise that by pointing out what yall are doing is in and of itself a "tell" about what might happen.

You are probably right. It reeked of "OH I HAVE A HARDON FOR PATCHFACE AND THE PROPHECIES AND I NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY DONT OVERLOOK THOSE SINCE THEY CHANGED HIS PART INTO A SONG FOR THE CREDITS!!!!1111elevenone"

You forgot to include...

Getting back on track...

Next weeks episode is called "The Climb".

Any scene predictions?

Will Thormund Giantsbane be the first over the wall? Or will he fall?

I get that you don't care dude but a serious question, do you not understand how having access to all source material and no access to how that material will be presented leads you to be a biased observer?

Presumably, that's a question from a non-reader to another non-reader about opening a comment about speculating as to what the song was about. When you as a book reader answer, then there is no room for speculation or conversation. You've just read from the teacher's edition and moved the conversation on.

Regardless, I'm not yelling at you. I think it's funny. In fact, I enjoy reading the bickering over there as much as anything else.

Is the dude with the eagle supposed to be the show version of Sixskins? Kind of an odd change, right?
