How long do you want to ignore this user?
Reminds me of when I was watching Season 1 as a non-reader. A buddy of mine was over and watching an episode where Ned is in prison. We're talking about the show, and I said something along the lines of "This is what I hate about TV shows like this. He's a fairly major actor, so you know they aren't going to kill his character. It's like when you're watching Law and Order and random guy they talk to at the victim's office is a famous actor. You just know he did it."

My buddy ever so slightly cut his eyes at me.

I looked at him and said, "****. They are going to kill Ned." And my buddy immediately started to waffle with "you don't know that" but he was betrayed by his body language.

Later, someone accidentally texted me about the RW as I was reading book 2. Then said texted, "Oh sorry. I was texting someone else. You don't know what this is about."

My reply: "I'm reading Book 2 right now."

Even more humorous is if Rob lives on the HBO version. Meltdown here and elsewhere would break the internet.

Need more Direwolves. The loss of Grey Wind bothered me more than the loss of Robb.

Over/under on number of posts before somebody spoils the RW? It will probably be some idiot with "good intentions."

"Oh you can't stop watching just because Robb dies! I'm not saying he's going to die or anything, but he's going to die."

i can see one of us from the spoiler thread inadvertently posting something about it on the other thread, thinking we were posting on this one. i sure as **** hope none of us would purposely post something about it over there...

America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedom and our way of life. We did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive.

I think it's funny in the quote posted above that the non-reader thinks of Robb as the main character and Westeros' only hope. I guess being a book reader and Robb having no POV chapters I have never considered him that main of a character, despite his importance to the story line. Definitely not THE main character.
JJxvi
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, Robb definitely feels like a "good guy" and the most favored candidate to "win" because so many of the main POV characters are tied to him (including his father), but its really through other characters that we see him in the books.

Also, that'd be a good way to give it away...some idiot go over there and try to argue that Robb isnt really a main character...
techno-ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, who is the main character? It's obvious GRRM loves the dwarf and he gets top billing in the show. But the books show a strong undercurrent in Westeros pulling to put Dany on the Iron Throne.

I'd argue that Jon, Tyrion, and Dany are the three main characters.

No Arya?

Still on the fence about her... she might be a wild card that no one sees coming. The other three have skin in the game currently.

Staff needs an itchy trigger finger on the other thread, especially regarding any hints about Robb, or for that matter, Catelyn.

Hodor is TPTWP and Azor Ahai reborn, clearly he is the main character

I have read and appreciated all 5 books and am hooked on the story and mythology, and e even I think the Red Wedding was a dumb decision by GRRM. It took me from caring about the characters and their fates to just reading out of pure fascination in the complexity and politics.

I was a very different reader pre-RW than post-RW and I enjoyed the story much more before.

I think Catelyns reaction with digging her nails in her face is going to be crazy on screen.

Before seeing those chapter number breakdowns I would have said the main characters are Jon, Tyrion, Dany, and Arya. If any of them were killed off I would be way more upset than I was during the RW. Not to say I wasn't upset with the RW. My wife's reaction was worse to thinking Arya was dead than to the RW.
aggie93
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I was angry and frustrated during the RW but when Arya's chapter ended with her being hit by an axe I threw the book across the room and cursed for about 20 minutes. I truly felt duped into having invested so much in the story only to see my 2 favorite characters at the time (Robb and Arya) both dead.

Then I realized there was an awful lot of story still ahead so it can't just end that way. I picked the book back up and by the end of ASOS I realized just how special the books are. I've never had any story grip me so firmly.
Greeze06

So its safe to say the starks are the main focus.
redline248
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Starks have always been the main focus, with a healthy dose of Tyrion. Especially with the almost inevitable direct connection b/w Stark and Targaryen. Actually, this may be one of my biggest questions about the show. They've hardly done anything to hint at any possible R+L=J scenario...which might be on purpose.

My sister watched season 1 before beginning the books, so she had a healthy connection to Robb that most other readers did not. The Red Wedding really pissed her off. When I opened Storm of Swords the first time and saw a Jaime chapter I thought to myself "wtf is this sh_t? Maybe this means he'll finally do a Robb chapter." lol.

I am so paranoid about doing this that I double check constantly which thread I'm reading before I post.

not a book reader, but already know several spoilers from reading wiki articles of the characters while trying to better understand whats going on in the show. With that said...

had noticed that almost every scene with tywin this season has started with him writing a letter and I couldnt remember if it was ever said who he was writing. Then i found this video posted on another forum.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsTVnZm9hFg

after reading some of the comments it seems like some posters are book readers that arent convinced of the plot in this video, and from what ive heard/read lady talisa isnt even in the books so that is the only reason i ask if its true... and on the off chance they have deviated from the book, i thought it would be interesting to post in this thread.

Synopsis of the 6 minute video is Tywin has been writing talisa (who is a spy) the whole time.

My guess is, at some point the bog kids that hooked up with Bran will be the source of these hints on the show. Can't think of their family name right now, but the dad was with ned at the Tower of Joy...howard something?

We know the contents of at least three letters in the book.

One sent to Sybell Spicer informing her to make sure her daughter, Jeyne Westerling, does not become pregnant with Robb's baby (FfC HB, pg 661). (Talisa = Jeyne for all intents and purposes.)

We know he sent a letter to Walder Frey, but we are made to believe Tywin had no knowledge of the RW...well not all of it (SoS HB, pg 595).

And we know he sent a letter to Roose Bolton claiming to make him Warden of the North (SoS HB, pg 595).

I don't recall any other letters off the top of my head.

Her brother was killed at the RW freeing Grey Wind, but her mother and uncle (the ones Grey Wind didn't like) were the ones behind it

No. I wrote notes down during my second reading. I knew the letters were discussed, so all I had to do was scan through my notes.
quote:

Jeyne was left in Riverrun at Cat's request. As said, her brother was with Robb because he was Robb's squire. I think a cousin was with him as well, but the rest of the family stayed behind.

Heisenberg,

If you have read some spoilers and you are on this thread you should not post predictions on the other thread. You said the same thing about him writing letters over there which could lead to the Non Readers predicting the RW coming.

I suppose it is possible that Talisa in the show is a spy, though that would make her another deviation away from Jeyne in the books. Jeyne was a devoted wife and naive. It also would seem odd that she would be encouraging Robb to go North or to keep Karstark alive in the last episode though as either of those would have been wiser moves than what Robb in the end decides.

We haven't even been introduced to the Red Viper and he isn't cast. They are doing a decent job of pacing with the book actually and should be about 60-70% done by the end of the season. The real question will be how much they mix in Book 4 and 5. One fortunate thing is Yara/Asha is the only real holdover cast member from all the Iron Islands stuff. We haven't met Victarion, Euron, or the Damphair (at least he wasn't introduced as such) and Balon dies before we see him again.

Very likely the Dorne and Greyjoy characters will be significantly scaled back. I disliked most of the chapters with the later Greyjoys, and I don't see how GRRM will tie in their story lines in the end. Dorne will no doubt play a big role, but only one or two of them will remain relevant.
AggieSouth06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't think she's a spy, but I think she dies at the RW. Maybe Robb dies cutting people down trying to defend her. I would rather he get a heroic death in the show. Not depressing enough for GRRM, but I'm ok with the show being more optimistic.
