My hope is that FIFA controls it. International fans will have massive complaints (not that FIFA cares) because sports tickets everywhere else in the world are way cheaper compared to here. Not to mention Americans alone aren't going to fill venues to watch Cameroon v. Serbia or something similar, especially with all the extra games

And just for a counterpoint, it's a perfect opportunity to gain new fans. It's not just soccer, it's everything, but people love to make fun of people who don't understand something as much as them, which doesn't really do much to increase the popularity....JJxvi said:

It's been great so far with 4 matches back to back for two weeks and 2 matches at a time twice daily for four days this week. Now, we get two matches per day for the next 4 days as we go from 16 to 8 and then a short break before quarter finals.

They may have blurred together, and obviously the 4am central time match each day for the first two group stage match days were not watched by many people here.
But now, Sat, Sun, Mon, and Tue, there will be only one match at 9a and one match at 1p each day.

I don't know how it doesn't start blurring together. I was watching the Ochocinco show the other day and they were all asking each other during the segment to remind them what happened in certain matches.
I watched most of the 4am stuff but my brain only filed away the really, really important stuff from those matches
I think its too bad FIFA couldn't find a more fun small nation to bribe them...there would have been something really cool about having fans of 32 nations largely in the same place truly partying it up together. I'm sure it was still quite a sight.

This is true for me, especially since the auto-qualify and expansion for 2026 means there will be no qualification drama to follow over the next few years.
