Leaving Doha now.
Amazing experience. Yes, there was disorganization. Yes, there were wtf is going on. However, it being the very first tournament put on by the region and culture it was pretty dang awesome.
Interactions with the other countries were what made it so unique and special for me. Especially Iran. I never met anyone who currently lived in Iran, but they were so nice, very much against what was going on in their country all the while still proud to be Iranian.
From the airport, the museums, the restaurants, the malls and the list goes on awhile they were all jaw dropping. Lavish is an understatement. Hell, the overpasses were amazing.
The stadiums were incredible, especially Al Bayt. I got to see two matches there and just wow an oasis in the middle of the desert.
All the stadiums were open roof, and they all had AC. Air conditioned stadiums outdoors. A couple had ac vents under your seat. My dad would've been furious. Close the damn door, you're letting all the cold air out.

Glad you had a great trip. I had a bit of a change of heart about this WC almost immediately after games began… or perhaps it's more accurate to say that I realized that there's a huge silver lining to all the bad (though this doesn't justify the bad). And you touched on it - I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that this WC probably features more visitors from Islamic countries than other WC's due to its location… and I firmly believe it's a very good thing when cultures can have positive interactions with each other. If Tunisians and Saudis and Iranians can meet Westerners and both can come away feeling respectful of the other, that's a really good thing.
Again - I don't think the means justify the ends, but since the ship has sailed and the unfortunate means have already happened, I am glad to see that the world is still coming together here and weaving together something decent out of the pile of poo that got us here. Thanks for being a good ambassador for us.

Tunisia filled the stadium the match I saw them in Education City, below is a sign every spectator saw when leaving.
This was my 3rd trip to the middle east. I feel more safe in Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar than I do in the US.
Another fun interaction I had was with the workers. Uber drivers, metro workers, wait staff, etc.
I asked all of them... How long the had been in Qatar? And if they enjoyed their time.
Most were from Bangladesh and Pakistan. All of them said they were glad to be in Qatar and not home.
