FIFA have written to World Cup teams urging them to focus on the tournament and not be part of lecturing on morality and dragging football "into every ideological or political battle that exists".

Full details @SkyNews of the letter sent by FIFA chiefs to World Cup teams telling them to focus on football rather than giving morality lessons and thinking one culture is better than an other.https://t.co/etOF4xnyaK https://t.co/TL7jDXOSTm pic.twitter.com/sxBPZCGQpu

This is an objectively false statement.Quote:
One of the great strengths of the world is indeed its very diversity, and if inclusion means anything, it means having respect for that diversity. No one people or culture or nation is "better" than any other. This principle is the very foundation stone of mutual respect and non-discrimination.
The holocaust was no big deal. Just part of their culture.jeffk said:
They're using a pseudo-intellectual argument that "culture" is an impenetrable block with no component parts that are fair game for criticism.
"Who's to say jailing LGBTQ people is wrong? It's a part of their culture and we must respect that."
"Sure, they practice cannibalism, but it's unfair for us to criticize someone's cultural beliefs."

Why wasn't there more outrage and statements made years ago when FIFA awarded the contract? At this point, it seems too late. The players should just go play and the people visiting should enjoy the luxurious new stadiums, hotels, etc. they built for this event

i think the report on LDLT was the injury would put him out about 3 weeks- right up to the WC, so he was still expected to be included in the roster. ..and yes, he has not been playing a ton for club.tysker said:
I'm not sure how accurate the above is.
Isnt DLT hurt? And before that he wasnt really playing for his club much.

This has been a known issue since Berhalter tookover. The one new player is Scally who was nowhere on anyone's radar back in 2019. Think this changes for '26 as some of the youngsters in MLS (and Europe) get more playing time and hopefully move overseas to play at higher level.tysker said:
Boy that midfield is really the strength of this team
That outside back situation is not optimal at all. Lots of versatility but not a lot of class. What are the odds we play 3 in the back?
