10's of millions in emergency water repair contracts given out to friends and family's fraudulent companies.

Who says the mafia isn't in Houston. It just isn't the Italian type. City Hall is and has always been horribly corrupt.

There is a water leak in front of Loro on 11th street that has been there for weeks gushing water. Wonder if one of these fraudulent contractors was supposed to fix it.

Prison time for all I hope. Not sure about the guy they "let retire". They are trying to let him keep his benefits. Protecting their own. If he's in on it, he's going to prison and the city will have to take legal action to strip the benefits from them. Such bull*****

During the debate, her solution for the water infrastructure issues was reaching out to the "private equity community" for help. After that, we were going to have the "best water pipes around"

Sounds like a very thoughtful plan.

Lots of competition. I think HCC still has some in prison for their bribery. The Rangers after the County folks. Metro suspicious.

Didn't the Health Department folks get some prison time a while back for bribery?

We have a long history of corruption.

Spanish toll road model for water? lol. Buy water and then have to toll said water through new, high-speed toll road pipes.

I've heard so many stories of guys getting their gear stolen at Fitz and other places while they were loading or unloading that I would have no problem believing that.
If I have to stop somewhere before or after a gig, I take my gear with me. I might get weird looks walking through Kroger with trombone cases on my back or taking them with me into a restaurant, but they aren't getting stolen that way.

ETA: A friend's $30,000 cello was stolen out of his car and sold to a pawn shop for $60.

What's worse, a crackhead selling a $30,000 Cello for $60 or the pawn shop thinking someone is going to buy a Cello at a pawn shop.

Never mind, of course someone would buy a Cello at a pawn shop. Morons abound.

If my dumb hypothetical kid wants to play an instrument that they will probably stop playing in two weeks, I would absolutely buy one for $60 at a pawn shop and call it a win.

Me picturing Ryan eating in Chili's, and some little kid tapping his mom on the shoulder and saying, "Look, mom, that guy likes to blow horns."

I went to Katz's a while back and had my double tenor/bass case with me. It's very bulky, and not very obviously a trombone case to the ordinary observer. All the waitstaff seemed really uncomfortable with it and they sat me in a section by myself away from everyone else. I made a point to casually mention to the server the case contained trombones and she was clearly relieved to know it wasn't full of guns or something.

Another thought would be something like bio materials that have to be couriered by person.

Speaking of which, you can get those hazard stickers off the internet pretty cheap. Might discourage theft.

HOUSTON An officer was shot and a suspect killed in southwest Houston early Saturday morning, police said. The officer is expected to be OK.

Houston Police Department Chief Troy Finner said this happened shortly after 1 a.m. on Harwin Drive near the Westpark Tollway and Southwest Freeway.

Finner said the officer, a sergeant who's been with HPD for 17 years, and two other officers were looking for a suspect believed to be involved in multiple burglaries. They saw the suspect park at a nearby hotel and Finner said he started scoping out nearby businesses.

At some point, the sergeant was in his patrol car when the suspect came up to the sergeant's passenger side window and opened fire in what Finner called an "ambush-style attack." The sergeant was hit multiple times in the arms and legs and once in his ballistic vest but was able to return fire, shooting the suspect multiple times.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and the sergeant was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Records said if he does post the bond, he will be on 24-hour house arrest, aside from going to work or attending school.

Something tells me that work and school aren't on his to-do list.

Apparently he had no adult record. He had tried to burglarize a house right before this attack and got into a altercation with the female resident. I'm sure he's already out on bond.

Spring Branch ISD Police out there doing the Lord's work.

Quote:

Dear SBISD Families, Staff and Community,

At 7:21 a.m. this morning, the Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) Police were notified of a suspect attempting to steal vehicles at Buffalo Creek Elementary School during morning arrival.

SBISD Police responded immediately and pursued the suspect who had left the school property and had subsequently carjacked two separate vehicles during the pursuit.

While being pursued by the SBISD Police, the suspect driving a stolen vehicle hit several other vehicles. He vacated the stolen vehicle and fled on foot.

The SBISD Police officer continued pursuit of the individual. When the suspect pointed his weapon at the SBISD Police officer, the officer responded, firing several shots and killing the suspect. The SBISD Police officer was unharmed. This took place in the 2800 block of Campbell Road.

Didn't see it before, but there is video of the second carjacking:

And then evidently is able to turn around on a two lane road and reverse direction with a cop behind him.
