Good for him. GM has had issues with their trucks being stolen long before this key deal.
Two years ago, I knew 3 people (2 tahoes and one Silverado) get their cars stolen the same month. Thieves cut the horn, broke into the car, got it started, drove away, and disabled on star in minutes. They had cameras and could see the lights flashing, so the alarm was going off, just no horn. They also got emails from onstar saying they had an alarm. All 3 replaced with the same vehicle.
Now they can apparently extend the range of the key to use that to unlock and start it. But the above method is probably still more common.
