This. Probably my only complaint. I absolutely love everything else, but that is definitely not Han Solo... which, strangely, I'm kind of ok with. I thought it'd be a bigger deal to me, but everything else looks so great that I think I'm fine with this being a Solo movie in name only as long it's fun.

Not to get into the argument of how good or bad TLJ was, but if Lando was in charge of Canto Bight and made a slightly more than cameo appearance, then that part would have left a better impression on me.

Agreed and I was not suggesting he should have been Benicio's character exactly - he could not have had that ending for him.

I think it would have been cool maybe if he was just the actual code breaker they were looking for originally and just had a cameo appearance in the casino maybe. they never get to him and end up in jail and Benicio does the rest. then you set him up for Ep. IX.

but alas no.... still he can easily be in Ep. IX and I think JJ will realize he SHOULD be in it.

The suggestion was to have Lando play Del Toros character....not Han.

Think about it, they've had easter eggs tying in each movie to the next one ever since Rogue One.

This is why I'm thinking we MAY get something that ties into the upcoming Obi-Wan movie. (It does happen damn near simultaneously.)

This is what I meant. But I also kind of see Last Jedi showing us what a Han solo type would have done it he just fly off with the money or even have had Vader pay him off to attack Luke during the attack on the death star.

Donald Glover as Lando is by far the most interesting thing about this movie to me. If he's along for the Kessel Run (which I'm guessing that is what we're seeing at the end of the trailer) then cool. If the movie turns out to be good I'd gladly take a Lando movie next. He's one of the few characters I'd say you can intrigue me with a background movie without a high probability of ruining the character

I said this earlier in the thread, but I actually didn't love this casting decision. I love Donald Glover, but he doesn't strike me as a Lando type. Someone more like an Anthony Mackie is who I'd have casted.

But he is very talented, so I'm hoping he does well.

It would. And since every Star Wars fan already knows that Han worked for Jabba, and that he got sideways with Jabba to the point he put a bounty on him, I really doubt much of that back story line takes place in Solo. Especially since most of that story would have happened in the few years leading up to ANH.

Likewise, all Star Wars fans knew that Vader was pursuing Leia's ship in search of the stolen plans, yet they included those last few, absolutely epic, scenes in R1. Complete nod to the fandom.

How about Solo ends like this:

Han is sitting across a table from Jabba who is flanked by Boba Fett and Greedo.
Jabba: (in subtitles) I like you boy, don't let me down. Even my best smugglers are losing too many shipments to the Imperials as it is.
Han: (smugly) You're a wonderful being, Jabba.
gets up and leaves, Fett nods curtly. Han is walking towards the hanger where the Falcon is, clearly they are in Mos Eisely. Sees Chewie talking to Obi Wan.

Obi: While I do appreciate the offer, it seems my work on this planet shall keep me here indefinitely. However if I have need of a transport in the future, I hope our paths cross.
Chewie: grrrwaaagrrraaa

Han: Who was that?
Chewie: grrrraaagraw
Han: A Jedi? Come on Chewie get back on the Falcon, you've been in the sun too long. Besides, we gotta new gig and the fastest ship in the Galaxy.

Chewie growls. Roll credits.
