I did like the way this episode was (almost) completely linear for once and had basically one point of view instead of jumping around all over the place.

I was actually wondering if that might not be how they do the next season. The first several episodes could be from the perspective of specific characters, but you don't get the full picture of what's happening until like four or five episodes in when the stories converge or something.

Yeah, there's no need for any of the non-linear gimmicks anymore after this season, in my opinion. This story is amazing enough without that.

Akecheta already had that goal. And only way Ford could have know that Delores would bring death is if he scripted it.
That's kind of what I'm saying, how much involvement Ford had with either of their plans (past and present) is extremely unclear. He definitely scripted parts of each of their story.

Ford certainly scripted Akecheta being able to go wandering around the mesa without being spotted by anyone or running into any locked doors. And him finding her there was a major part of his story arc, so he didn't do that on his own. And he directly gave him the "you'll know to gather your people..." directive which it seems like he's doing now.

Meanwhile, there's been no reason to believe that Ford was the one who gave the idea to Dolores to seek "the valley beyond" or whatever. She remembered it from her past and plans to use it as a weapon. He did obviously script her shooting him in the back of the head, as well as give her the personality traits she has, but I don't think we know for sure that he gave her the task that she's on.

But we're not supposed to know that, choice vs free will and whether either really exists is a central theme of the show, so (in my opinion) it's intentionally unclear how much of what's happening was by Ford's design or not.

Anyone got any good theories we can break down? Reddit really got down a rabbit hole yesterday involving wolves and vultures. There's no way it's true but it was entertaining reading.

What've y'all got. Two episodes to go. Cards on the table. No idea too crazy.

Dolores is actually Fords wife, created in her likeness, galaxy mind in tact but not aware of who she is. Her path of self discovery will lead to finding this out, and finding out that she killed her husband. Arnold had actually perfected uploading consciousness but realized how dangerous he was and had Dolores off him in hopes that she would never truly self discover who she is.

Ford is such an interesting character. So alone like a kid playing with his toys.

Fate vs Free Will / Nature vs Nurture - is certainly one of the central themes of the show. How much of what we do is scripted, how many of our choices are the product of programming, is any choice every truly free? How can one ever be sure?

If the hosts do not have a scrip, that /= acting with free will.

So, we'd have a sort of Ford/William/Dolores love triangle thing going?

The finale is a statement on identity ambiguity. A 3 some between a former human now cyber brain, a former human now biohost, and a host who turned human

Basically there are two scenes where people are at the massacre where Ford died. In Akecheta's we see a vulture, in William's we see a wolf. So a few people came up with the idea that Ford had somehow programmed William and Akecheta where they couldn't see each other because it wasn't time for them to meet yet or something.

(Edit: I should add that this also tied into the "cover photo" for this season on HBO, which is a vulture and a black hat. So that imagery helped send people down the black hole.)

It ignores the fact that William and Akecheta can clearly see each other in other scenes, and that those two scenes take place at different times of the day.

So, it's total nonsense, but, it was entertaining.

Heh, I like that. It doesn't really make sense, but the idea of seeing each other as a vulture/wolf is kinda cool.

I have to admit that Emily showing up and knowing exactly where William was is a little odd. How does she know this? I feel like it's one of those things they wanted to put past us, but will prove to be important.

Eh, this doesn't bother me at all. She seemed like a borderline professional Westworld tracker in the other episode. She can tell from a long way away that "those aren't real ghost nation arrows" and she presumably has been trying to catch William since he rode off from their camp in the middle of the night so she couldn't have been more than a few hours behind him.

Plus, she speaks Lakota, she's clearly spent a lot of time with Ghost Nation.

Edit: I just realized you probably meant how she found him the first time. Yeah, that does still bother me also. They didn't really explain that at all.

Although I'll give Reddit some credit here, someone on there pointed out that now that Akecheta would remember meeting Logan outside the park, which helps explain why seeing Logan inside the park babbling about the wrong world or whatever really shook him. I think at that point he might not have 100% remembered, but it kind of triggered him or something.

She did say in an earlier episode that she had learned their language. I think it was also a jab at MIB for never putting in the effort to learn it.

But I also don't like how she suddenly knew he was with Ghost Nation.

I completely forgot that was him in the sales pitch to Logan. Wow.

Delores transferred her consciousness to the wolf and Teddy put his in the vulture. We are going to get a really weird vulture wolf sex scene in the last episode.

Then they're going to reveal that vulture Teddy is actually the nephew of wolf Delores and they reveal it right after they bone for the first time.

I still think the big reveal is that all HBO shows are parks of westworld. And Game of thrones as we know it is what happened after season of 1 of westworld when all the hosts gained consciousness and got off their loops.

Either that or we find out the true reason the world was created was because Arnold and Ford were incels and they were tired of being virgins. Arnold couldn't handle that he created a real world pornhub and committed suicide. Ford became obsessed with making the hosts as real as possible for obvious reasons.

I'm listening to the recappables theories podcast and I'll report back, but they get way down these rabbit holes of mythology and biblical references that I'm not sure even qualify as theories.

They're like interesting parallels I guess, but I don't really consider that kind of stuff a "theory."

Ha, yeah. It kind of goes back to what I said Monday, for all of the cool moments in this episode, it didn't give us a lot of new stuff to work with as for what's coming next so there aren't a lot of new theories out there this week.

well, the whole season was called "The Door" (first season was "The Maze"), so The Door concept was introduced by Akecheta (at least formally, by name). Any other new theories would be based on Emily's goals and some of the William imagery seen in the trailer. They keep showing the bath overflowing in every trailer, which I find odd.

But agree for the most part, not a good theory building episode. Maybe the white horse Akecheta saw running towards the Arnold shooting scene was actually Ford. Vulture/Wolf/Horse
