I think a lot of people feel this way, but I'm not one of them. I grew up in west Texas (Abilene) and it was one of the best Mexican restaurants in town. It's definitely not authentic by any means. I always called it gourmet Mexican food just because it was definitely some gringo making those recipes. Being in CS for some time now, Polly's has been my favorite go to Mexican restaurant.
I just hope they survive these times....
Love Abuelo's. Great bar, food and service. Sad to see them go.
I grew up in Fort Stockton so we considered Abilene east Texas. I liked the bar area and the papas as a side dish.

I did an inspection of Sarge's in November and he pointed at the shelves with all the Corps awards, badges, etc. He said "you know that used to be about 60% of my sales, they all bought from me and now A&M is selling them at the MSC and it has dropped my sales to almost nothing." Another business going out at least partially due to A&M competing with them.

The volume and the traffic simply wasn't there. Per square foot, they generated X dollars, where as Chuys would have been 3x the amount.
That's a shame about Sarge's. One of the last two College Main institutions remaining.

I don't think Abuelo's would even do 2x their University Drive location if they were at 6 and Harvey. It's just kind of a forgettable experience. Not great, not terrible.legalbird said:

Margaritas and tres leches we're always solid. That said, I thought they went downhill well before COVID.
The problem is upscale Mexican restaurant is usually an oxymoron.
