Maul was falling for a long time, but his fall is stopped by the Emperor, as he still needs his apprentice and does not have one in the wings yet.

in a real elaborate scene similar to the end of Episode III, the emperor stabilizes maul and gives him magical robot legs that allow him to transform into a mini spaceship like some sort of Transformer.

However, the loss of his legs and rage at ObiWan drives him mad, so he transforms into his spaceship form and leaves for another world, ending up on Corellia where he meets and falls in love with a young princess named Lychore.

They get married and he takes her name. Also to honor that he is now part Transformer, he takes T as his middle initial and is forever after known as :

Maul T Lychore.

And now you know the rest of the story.

apparently C3PO is in the movie somewhere, at least according to mark hammill. so I am willing to be it is an Easter egg vs an actual appearance.

I liked it. It's a solid summer blockbuster. It didn't try to be anything more than it should be, a fun action movie set in the SW universe. Much better than the pretentious attempt at spirituality and philosophy that VIII was.

I'll be honest, after hearing about all of the problems this had with directors, reshoots, acting classes, I fully expected this to be a dud. I basically went into this in the dark about a year ago as a result. This exceeded my expectations on almost every level.


And holy hell, that ending. Again, so glad I went into this in the dark. The payoff was awesome.

Seriously. I'm having a hard time coming up with a better ending for a blockbuster in the past few years. The last 10-15 minutes deliver in so many awesome, satisfying ways, without involving a ton of CGI or some ridiculous CGI army. It's just perfect.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm pretty sure I now love the world of Star Wars more than I do Jedis and the Force and lightsabers. Give me this and Rogue One over TFA and TLJ all day long. Just keep the spin-offs coming... Solo 2, Obi-Wan, Boba Fett... whatever they've got coming down the pike, I'm there.

Seriously, the characters, the pacing, the twists, the turns, the sets, the cinemetography, the air-tightness of the script, the winks, the nods, the set ups, the payoffs... all of it was pitch perfect.

I truly do not understand how this is getting mediocre reviews. It's so... damn... fun. With great action. And it looks gorgeous. What's not to like? Even act one, which so many people are saying is clunky, was awesome. Losing the girl in the way he did, joining the Empire to get out of a pinch, Han's eagerness to be part of Beckett's crew, meeting Chewie (which was PERFECT)... I loved it all and every second of it served to anchor everything to come in just the right way.

I'm honestly at a loss. How is this not good enough for some people? Because this is how it's done. With just the right amount of humor, heart, and emotion, with an ending that so brilliantly calls back and ties up every last beat in thrilling, spot-on fashion.

Just... wow.

Give me Solo 2 now, please.

Nobody runs hot and cold on this franchise like TC, and damn is it funny sometimes. Glad you decided to go before your trip.

After sleeping on it, here's my current ranking, but I could definitely see this one climbing over time.

1. Empire
2. A New Hope

3. Rogue One
4. ROTJ
5. Force Awakens
6. Solo

7. Last Jedi
8. Revenge of the Sith

9. That stupid Clone Wars cartoon movie
10. Attack of the Clones
11. Phantom Menace

Even though it's "only" sixth, it's definitely in that tier of movies I absolutely love. I'm really not wild about Maul coming back. Him being alive always seemed like a gimmick that works to some extent in the cartoons, but the movies with a larger audience? I'm pretty sure there were a lot of confused people in the theater last night because I could hear whispers starting as soon as they saw him. What are they gonna do, have him as the villain in Kenobi? If so, he has to think Kenobi is dead in the end. (Also, looks like Ray Park played him and Sam Witwer voiced him like in the cartoons, so that's cool at least. Sam Witwer, who knows more Star Wars trivia than anyone I've ever seen). So is Crimson Dawn named such because of Maul's face?

Bettany was fine, but I do wish we'd gotten to see Michael K. Williams in that role.

I can safely say it was the projector in the theatre you were in. It was gorgeous.

Take it from me. I saw Rogue One and Last Jedi in the same theatre. Theatre 18 at Cinemark 18 in Webster and both looked like SHEET! Then took my kids for a second viewing and TLJ in particular looked amazing. Unfortunately sometimes the projector makes a HUGE difference I've found.

I agree. I think everyone was hesitant on this movie coming off TLJ let down. I mean how would they pull off the undefinable charm of Solo? Well damn it hey did. The swag, the smirks, the humor, the action. -
All bulls eye.

After the mysterious dice from TLJ i kind of chuckled at the first 5 minutes of Solo and thought "Damn, they are pushing those dice pretty damn hard."

Love to hear this, seeing it tonight. I have posted so many times on this board the same sentiment. I love the Star Wars universe, not necessarily the whole Jedi/Sith/Skywalker story. I am really amped up now for tonight.

Several things I had issues with.

I had fairly checked expectations for this one and it pretty much met them so I'm not dissapointed in the movie at all. It just didn't "wow" me.

I thought it was very predictable and there was really no suspense at all. Every time the main characters were in danger we all knew it would turn out ok because we know Chewy and Han would make it out ok.

Also, it just didn't have a totally Star Wars feel for me. It didn't have enough space sequences IMO. The one big space scene there was it was all clouded by fog and giant tentacles.

Like I said, I had a good time and thought there were good elements just had a few issues wth it and didn't enjoy it like I did Rogue One. I didn't leave the theater with the same super excited feeling.

I will say I loved Donald Glover's Lando. Thought he nailed that part and the other casting was good as well.

R2D2 was in the movie or at least a droid that looked identical.

I think it was when Han and Kira were trying to escape Corelia in the spaceport. R2D2 was in the big crowd on the left side.

My thoughts to a tee!!! I kinda went dark on the reviews and talk the last couple of weeks, so I was shocked this morning when I woke up to much lower reviews on RT than I was expecting. Both from the critics and the fans. I thought it was amazing. And so fun!!! Absolutely loved the last 30 minutes! Cannot say enough. And I was one in the camp that thought this whole Solo thing would never work and you couldn't have Han Solo without Harrison Ford, but man this kid was great!!! As was Donald Glover!

I really enjoyed Solo. I went in last night with low expectations, having not been a big fan of TLJ or Rogue 1, but Solo surprised me with a wonderfully fun adventure. I loved the interactions between Solo, Chewie and Lando as we saw them begin to build the relationships we know them for. The story was a good deal of fun with just the right number of winks and nods to the larger universe we're aware of. The movie looked great.

Maybe some of this is because my expectations were low - don't expect a cinematic masterpiece - but damn it's fun.

When I was a kid, I'd ask my dad to tell me stories about Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon before I went to bed. I feel like I just saw one of those stories play out before my eyes. It's a story I've waited for so long, I'd forgotten how much I wanted to see it, but as I left the theater, all I could think of was, "That was the story I was asking my dad to tell me 25 years ago, and now I want someone to tell me another and another."

Go see it. You'll have fun.

Brahma's review actually makes me think i will like it better. To me the space and force/ Jedi needs to be in the slight back ground not the total forefront. The mystery of the Force makes IV and V good. I will like it.

I think I'm getting to this point. Solo and R1 are both better than the new trilogy films. It aggravates me to say that since Luke Skywalker was my hero growing up, but I love the new stuff and exploring the universe.

Early BO is looking good, but not great. Word of mouth will be a huge factor here.

Basically, it's got a huge window between $120 and $170M that it could do. It's got the benefit of a holiday Monday, but I don't think that'll factor in much. I doubt it would go higher than $170 over the 4 days.

I flip back and for the because that's exactly what the franchise has done. The saga movies just haven't matched the thrills of the spin-offs.

Based on word of mouth, I think it has a great second weekend regardless. Zero competition next weekend. Heck, it might even do great the weekend after that, as its only completion will be Ocean's 8.

I bought the soundtrack right before I went to bed last night. Listened to it on the way into work this morning. I am loving this music! I came out of the theater last night feeling good about the movie, but not great. Listening to the score this morning I completely changed my mind. I could feel my pulse rising and lowering during the Kessel Run music. Also through the Corellia chase. The choral elements also bring some power the the music. Hearing the music and then re-visualizing the scenes...made it truly feel like a Star Wars movie!

Somebody said it earlier, but the lackluster feeling I had from TLJ totally put a damper on my general feeling for Star Wars overall. Main reason I didn't feel any of the hype to this movie, and IMO a main reason the crowds were lower this time. But I'm feeling high about Star Wars right now! I've got a good feeling about this.

I forgot to mention in my first post, but the music was absolutely great. Right off the bat I could tell it was a much better score than Rogue One had.

And both the "TIE Fighter Attack" and "Asteroid Field" cues from the ANH/ESB were awesome to hear during the Kessel Run.

Also, I think the alien pilot in the crew on the first job they pulled is hands down the best CGI I've ever seen.
