Some of the largest European clubs invest a lot of money to sign guys and then loan them out every year to foster their development and see if they become good enough to be in their squad. It's not necessarily a bad sign that some of our guys are not making first team squads and being loaned, as they are still getting first team minutes and being developed in Europe. (Richards- Bayern, CCV- Tottenham, Miazga- Chelsea, etc.). It has already paid off for Steffen who City loaded for a while before he finally made the squad at City. It's actually much better for Richards to be getting first team minutes at Hoffenheim right now than only playing in certain cup games and being excluded from the starting XI often in Bundesliga and Champions League games at Bayern.

I think it is more of a system thing. Leipzig has been better about bringing up younger players into their first team squad while it is harder at Bayern since they poach the best players from other teams. For example, this off season, Richards was playing well on loan and there had been talks that he could break into the first team then Bayern go an buy Upamecano from Leipzig.
Would love to see him play for Bayern however the mentality they take towards transfers makes it difficult to break through the first team for young prospect players.

Don't believe Pulisic has played for Chelsea since his injury, so pretty sure they wouldn't be keen for his first match back to be playing for the US.
Chelsea is dealing with multiple other injuries-don't want Pulisic to get concacafed again.

Skill-wise? Maybe just a lack of finishing touch. I honestly think he may be an outside mid at some point. His mindset takes him to places I don't really want my marking backs going.

he was probably developed as a full back growing up (assuming he was a winger as an early youth) due to his end line to end line fitness and sprint speed. Your central midfielders need box to box fitness but they are more typically the most skillful technical players with ability to make all different kinds of turns and distribute with flawless precision- but don't necessarily always need the speed & fitness as a full back doesGhost of Andrew Eaton said:

Dest is a wingback. There is little difference between a wing back and a winger except how forward they are deployed on the field. IMO being played as a fullback in a back four or without central midfield cover is playing him out of position
This. Which is why we, horrified, get to watch him repeatedly attempt to dribble around opposing players in our own defensive third.
