Related, but I bought a home with a sprinkler system for the first time ever and will be going out of town for a while. Isn't there some stuff I need to do?
Go turn off the water at the back flow preventer today, then turn the screw near it (little nipple things on the left of the image below) so the water in the lines drains/shoots out. I take an old towel and wrap it around it and then tape it on, and then cover the whole thing with a large garbage bag to keep it dry. Has worked well for 12 years and 2 houses.

I was in Dallas with my parents that weekend, and went to the game with my dad. I was drunk by halftime, hangover hit in the car on the drive home afterwards. Got home, sobered up and rallied, and went out with a friend and got hammered again. What an awful game.aTm2004 said:

Closed the in ground valve and the one you drew an arrow on but nothing came out of the nipple. Guess there wasn't enough in the line.

GFS model forecast for accumulating snow between now and 12/27.
— Governor Dill (@TheGreenOldDill) December 11, 2022
All 48 of the continental US states are forecast to receive snow.
We are all gonna freeze to death from all of this global warming. 😭😭😭 pic.twitter.com/6hrUlyQTk1
The signals for SIGNIFICANTLY below normal temperatures coming in from the GFS, Euro, and Canadian ensemble data today is incredible. And these are averages of dozens of runs, not a single model output, which is even more telling. 🥶🥶#INwx #ILwx #OHwx #MIwx #WIwx #winter #snow pic.twitter.com/8nbf7skj8F
