Is 35-40/lb the going rate for brisket nowadays? Seems like it was always around 20-25 until ~ 4 years ago.
Haven't seen $40 yet, but $32-$35 has been the usual for a while now.

Texas BBQ dominated tonight and showed that it is THE defining cuisine of this state. Almost half of the bib gourmand and star designations went to BBQ restaurants.

Just got home from celebrating with the staff and I still can't believe it!
We thought a bib or recommendation would be an incredible accomplishment, so get a star really has me floored.
So proud and humbled by all of this. Texas BBQ really had an amazing showing, there was such a great representation throughout the ceremony.
Excited to get to work tomorrow. The expectations have been raised and I promise we will all work harder to meet them.

City Market in Luling today. Lunch, leftovers and half a dozen cold for vacuum sealing and freezing. Good as always.
Tried to make it through Lockhart for 'cue on the way to a high school football game but due to traffic had to settle for Bastrop, which on on the route... First time at new-ish brick and mortar Southside Market here, although we've been to the Elgin location and bought Elgin sausage for decades (theirs and Meyers both).
I got the moist brisket and pork belly, which was absolutely delightful. Pleasantly surprised.

Went to Leroy and Lewis yesterday to enjoy the Michelin star food. It was excellent.

Went to Cattleack for the first time since Todd and Misty sold it. Brisket was good but the turkey and ribs felt off, the turkey was rubbery and the ribs just didn't click with me. I can chalk that up to the day. . . maybe. What I cannot chalk up to the day was the absolute butcher job they did to the hatch green chile Mac and cheese recipe.
I was very disappointed and felt a pretty sharp fall off since they sold outside of the brisket. Also missed not seeing Misty at the opening and checkout. Doors just opened and her friendly smile was sorely missed

Bummer to hear that. I've been multiple times since the sale and haven't noticed a drop off outside of one time that I thought the ribs were off. Admittedly, I don't think I've tried the Mac and cheese since the sale and don't think I've ever had their turkey, but the sides I usually get have also tasted the same.

Followed Jetch's lead and swung by brisket & rice today as well. While I've certainly had better brisket before this was still damn good and the idea of brisket fried rice works really well as well. Plus it's 10 minutes from my folks place where I've been over the holidays. Was gonna try to get to truth today but figured it'd be insane.
On another note tried to roll up to interstellar last week to check it out for the first time only to be told that the wait from where I was at would most likely be over 2.5 hrs so didn't stick around to see how accurate that prediction was.
