I got some "top KC BBQ" today. I walked out wishing I had Dickey's instead.

Recently did Truth in Houston, for the first time. Gotta say, it was not worth the 30 minute wait in the 95 degree heat when Pinkerton's is 10 minutes away. I actually prefer Pinkertons, and I can walk right in and get my food.

However, neither locations has fried okra, and that's at least 50% of the reason I like most BBQ joints.

Slight derail, but for my fellow okra bros, got some fried okra yesterday at Perla's in Austin that was pretty tasty.

I am not a huge fan of fried okra like that, like the little bites more

I agree, not my ideal, but it made for easier dipping into the remoulade.

Yeah... hand-cut/battered fried okra is probably my favorite side of all time. I prefer that to french fries. Here in Houston, Gatlin's has fantastic fried okra and great BBQ, so that's still my go-to if I feel like picking up BBQ on a Saturday afternoon. Not to mention their venison sausage, and just being a great family I like to support.

City Market in Luling today. For whatever reason, it was my first time here. What a cool place. Definitely feels like you stepped back in time about 25 years.

Brisket was cooked and seasoned right, but it was still a bit dry. It would probably be lights out if they used Prime briskets (I'm just using an educated guess that they use Choice).
The flavor of the sausage was excellent. The texture was that of a typical old-school sausage; loose and crumbly. And the casing was a little tough from being on the smoker.
Pintos were average, and the slice of cheddar(not pictured) was a perfect compliment to the meal.

The sauce was as good as promised.

I feel like their spot on the TM BBQ "Honorable Mentions" is accurate, but my opinion is that they are probably on the lower end of that list.

I'll definitely be back.

probably the light of the camera, but that brisket looks unappetizing - damn near looks like they boiled it (yes I know they didn't)
What do you boys want for breakfast BBQ ?.....OK Chili.

I thought the exact same thing whenever they put it on my paper. It was not the best, but it was definitely better than it looks.

Went to Cooper's in CS this past weekend with my sister and her grandkids. I wanted to try 1776 but my sister had never heard of it, so.....

I got brisket, turkey, and a couple of pork ribs. Sister got burnt ends.

Brisket was okay. Turkey was good and moist. Ribs were way too salty.

Tried a couple of the burnt ends and they were inedible.

I got the green chile and bacon mac and cheese as a side. It had no heat at all.

Overall I give Cooper's in CS a "meh".

Beef Cheek, you're aways hitting up different BBQ places. Are there any BBQ restaurants that didn't make the top list (or even honorable mention) that you would suggest trying? If so, what are they?

Just realized I never answered this!

Honestly I such a BBQ fiend, there are a lot of places I will eat that I wouldn't recommend

But my favorite non-Top 50 are:

Lum's (Junction)
Backwoods (Fredericksburg)
Vic's (Austin)
and any of the True Texas BBQs at HEB.

For a long time Clem Mikeska's and Cyclone were on the list, but Clem's changed their sauce and Cyclone closed

I am surprised by the true Texas bbq. I remember being very disappointed one time at the one in Lubbock. I remember thinking I wish I had got Dickys

The times I've had the HEB BBQ I've actually been very impressed. Not very expensive either when you factor in the quality/ease of picking it up.

Vic's is close to my office and dropped by one day for lunch. Didn't know anything about the place.

Ordered brisket and ribs. Brisket was average but ribs were exceptional.

Glad to hear that others think it is good also. Was worried that I was just craving ribs.
