This. As much as I want to hate him because he's a Yankee, he seems like a nice guy. The problem is all the jackass Yankee fans. With Jeter gone, they needed to anoint another "best ever" player to ball wash constantly. I really expected Boras to steer Altuve towards testing the open market, but I guess $30M per year is a good reason to go ahead and sign an extension.

Also a good sign that the core of the team is willing to sign extensions. These guys love playing for this organization.
I like that it's only 5 years. Gives the team the flexibility to re-up or walk away if he doesn't age well and gives Altuve reason to play for another contract.
Like I said this is a win-win for both sides and that doesn't happen often.

I think they are going to wait and see with Dallas. With his injury history I think they want to see him stay healthy for a whole year and dominate for a year before they offer him a large contract. And I'm fine with that. That means ideally we get a full year of him at an all star level, and if we don't, we'll then we don't offer him a monster contract
And fwiw I don't think he's worth a top 10% in the league type of contract.

Isn't there data that pitchers 30+ tend to decline, on average, it is not worth signing them to a lucrative longterm deal? I mean I am good with no more than 5 years and not any more than $25 million per, nothing more.
I don't think I could consider anything over 20M per year
