I know we're gearing up for the race for seis and all, but to put the Spurs overall awesomeness in perspective, I wanted to point out that with the win over the Griz the other day, the Spurs are the 2nd fastest to 2000 wins, getting there in 3222 games. Boston did it in 3125 games, while it took the Lakers 3344 games.

Green has only been bad shooting wise. He's been great on D all year, which is where his true value is. Plus I'm hoping his shot will come back when playoffs roll around kinda like Robert Horry.

My math could be off on this, but for the last 5 division titles, the Spurs have won the division by 8 games (13-14), 2, (12-13), 9 games (11-12), 4 games (10-11), and 1 game (08-09) for a total of 24 games in those 5 seasons.
It is conceivable that with 9 games to go and a 20 game lead in the division, that they win the division with 24 games ahead of 2nd place, even if pop continues to rest players.

Also, last year the SW Division's worst team was NOLA with 45 wins. This year it looks like Memphis will be the only team other than the Spurs with 45 wins. And that's assuming they win 4 of their next 9.
Wonder if a team has ever had 60 wins in March and not led the NBA in wins.

99 percent of fans only care about scoring.
We are a negative scoring team when he is on the court. Scoring less than 1 point per possession when he is playing. Averaging 1.11 points per possession on the season as a team. He is the only player that played for the Spurs this year that had a points per possession rating of under 1/possession.
Danny reminds me, a little, of Bruce Bowen. I don't remember BB driving to the basic but was great on d and the corner 3. I think DG is better than some on defense, has traditional hit the 3. But I think if he wants to contribute, he needs to drive and get in the paint. TP should teach him the art of the tear drop. Pass the tear drop shot to DG.
Problem is Danny is only hitting 30% of his corner threes this year. Last year he was at 47%. Bowen actually led the NBA in 3pt% one year.
I think Danny spent all off-season working on driving, ball handling, and recycling commercials. Now he's not good at any of them OR three point shooting.
Is it an easier task to teach Martin how to defend or to teach Green how to shoot again?

The latter. You don't become a good defender after 8-9 years of not playing defense.
I tend to agree, but lamarcus has done just that. If you are athletic and intelligent then the missing piece for defense is simply effort.
Martin has a decent nose for the ball and he has gotten some nice deflections the last couple games, but he doesn't have the build to play defense like Green. I think he'll get bullied by guards with good size and by the time he puts in the work to get really good at position/rotation defense he'll have lost a step.
Besides, Green is shooting 36% in 2016. Not nearly as good as last year but good enough that he has to be covered, which is the main thing.

Regarding Green, I think he's had a little bit of the Malik Rose happen to him. He got the big contract and is trying to live up to it. The problem is he incorrectly determined that he needed to diversify his offensive game in order to do that. The reality is he got paid to be an elite defender and a plus 3-ball shooter off the catch. Back in the day Malik got paid to be a bench hustle player and immediately started taking long jumpers to live up to it.
The good news is Danny is still playing very good defense. I hope he gets in a groove with his shot though.

Agreed. They have no prayer in a series. I'm just astounded they've been able to eek out wins with that lineup.
Danny Green is shooting .02 percentage points less than the NBA average. While that isn't what we paid him to do, everyone needs to tone down the whole "he can't shoot anymore". It's a bad season, but he's been much better since the calendar turned.
He also provides wing defense better than all but 5-8 guys in the NBA, which, if you haven't noticed, is dominated by guards. He could go 2-6 from deep every night for an entire year and more than make up for it with his defense.

I really like Green and am pulling for him, but his performance is the one thing keeping this team from reaching its potential. Like Guitarsoup posted, he is the one player on the Spurs that has a measurable negative impact this season. That isn't good. He gets many more open looks in high percentage spots on the Spurs than he would elsewhere so using league averages is a bit misleading. Plus he got that big contract to be a 3 and D player and right now the 3 part is missing.
The good news is that he has shown sustained shooting success in the past so I still believe he can get hot in the playoffs.

You can't teach touch or how to really stroke the ball. However, like you said, you can teach assignments and effort on the defensive side.
