I think going back to last year's offense did it. Crisper movement off the ball meant that the first kick was often to an open shooter. On the PnR the ball handler was looking to score instead of pass, which forced the defense to rotate and opened up shooters and cutters.
We've been experimenting a lot with high-low post combinations and off ball picks to free up Kawhi and Aldridge, which has made the guards somewhat into spectators. Plus we haven't figured out the timing and spacing to keep all five guys productively on the move but still feature a post primary scorer getting a touch on most possessions. Offense has come a long way since the old days when we ran 4-down every possession.
Personally, I'd prefer to stick with lots of pick and roll where the ball handler is looking to score. If teams decide they aren't going to help on TP, he will carve them up for an efficient 25. If they do honor that threat, then Aldridge catches the ball with space to work and shooters coming open. Then work on wrinkles from the plays that we know work to increase Aldridge's touches and evolve the offense rather than trying to change it all at once.
The offense isn't horrible overall, but the starters are far less efficient than the bench and definitely "out talent" opponents rather than using the system to generate great looks. That's why I want to see us stick to what we know and expand from there as everyone gets used to the things Aldridge can do.

I think some people need to realize that while the offense can be just as great or even better then years past, the style of play is going to be different. The Spurs just aren't going to be shooting as much three point shots as they have in the past because of the different pieces they have added and the continuing emergence of Kawhi Leonard. For example, Leonard's usage rate this year is top 3 in the league, that has not been the case in the past but he deserves the ball and is our best player. The Spurs are putting the ball in his hands a lot more leaving it up to him to make decisions. As we all know, this is a part of his game that is still being developed and something he needs to continue to improve. Wrinkles like this change the whole dynamic of the offense. The second unit although still plays the style that generates a lot of open threes.
Saying all that, The Spurs are currently #1 in the league in total defensive efficiency rating and the starters are playing great team defense. The Spurs also rank #7 offensively in this statistic which tends to show that the offense really might not be all that far behind like some think.
The starting lineup, in spite of their highly effective defense, is actually less efficient than their opponents, and we have not been playing good competition. The team offensive statistics only look good because our bench is devastating the second-rate teams we've been playing. Like I've said, that is not cause for concern until the RRT, but it's worth admitting and keeping an eye on.
I agree with Sher that there will be fewer three pointers than previous seasons and I don't see that as a problem, but I still think they need to stop playing into the teeth of the defense so much. Right now defenses are keying on Aldridge and Kawhi and more or less giving the guard free run coming off screens. Stop trying to force it into Aldridge, take what the defense gives, and it won't take the league long to figure out that they have to play us straight up. Life will get a lot easier for everyone.
Aside from that, there have been some really interesting lineups. Parker/Mills have gotten some run together. They also tried a lineup with Anderson/Kawhi playing the 4/5 against Phoenix (it didn't work very well). Still, I think there is a lot of flexibility to go with Aldridge or Duncan at the five and almost any other set of guys to counter small ball. Against GSW's microball lineups, they can even roll out Diaw at the five and probably be ok. Second unit rebounding has been an issue, so it doesn't hurt much to go a little smaller by swapping West or Diaw out for a SF as long as they gang rebound.

Spurs at a 66-67 win pace. Obviously there are plenty of good teams they haven't played yet. Still pretty good for a team that hasn't even started to gel on offense.
