Milestone update: Jonathon Simmons scored his first two points, putting him 308th all-time for the Spurs. Needs 26,074 points to pass Duncan.

Tim Duncan has passed David Robinson for 5th in blocks in NBA history. Duncan needs 110 to pass Mark Eaton for 4th in blocks. Duncan needs about 250 rebounds to pass Karl Malone for 6th. He needs about 870 points to pass Hakeem for 10th all time. All should be reachable this year.

Only people that are top 15 in points, top 10 in rebounds and top 5 in blocks are Duncan and Kareem.

Speaking of the Red Mamba, he's having a historic season this year. He's currently putting up the following numbers:

ORtg: 123
DRtg: 78

His per 36 numbers aren't GREAT right now, but I think that's a reflection of how he's the consummate team player who lays it all out on the line and does all the little things so astonishingly well that scoring and blocking and steals all become secondary... and he is averaging 36 defensive rebounds / 36 as well, which is nothing to shake a stick at. Finally, he's averaging 72FTs / 36 -- 2nd in the league behind Russell Westbrook! Not bad, Red Mamba, not bad.

I've got a cool (I'll share it, and you can decide how cool it is) Bonner story to share . This was a deal that was only for the Spurs own internal PR uses, so we basically had to agree to keep it confidential and not post pictures and videos to facebook or whatever. I think the statute of limitations has probably run at this point. I may even post some pics or videos, but I'll have to clear that first.

Many of you may be familiar with Matt Bonner's "Coach B" persona. There have been some pretty hilarious "Coach B" videos and such over the years, such as:

The Spurs big charity event every year is called "Tux N' Tennies," and there are always some hilarious skits involving the players and some funny things from the emcees (Sean Elliott is a frequent host), and it's for a good cause. I have a relative who is heavily involved in Spurs PR (I have to be pretty vague here, as the Spurs are a little paranoid about this stuff) who called us up one day and said "I need your boys to come down and shoot a video with some Spurs players." My boys are big basketball players and we're all huge Spurs fans, so we didn't need any more details or encouragement than that to hop in the car and make the drive down from CS.

So we meet up at an outdoor basketball court at a really nice house in SA, and there is the film crew, the other kids who will be in the shoot, and Coach B. There are two groups of kids, one wearing blue shirts (the bad guys) and my boys are given red Spurs shirts with some other kids. This is when we get the lowdown on the video (I haven't watched the video in a couple years, so this is based mostly on my recollection):

Coach B has put together an all-star team of the best basketball players in the world, who are all great players and have the most important basketball skill you can have: red hair. One of my sons really has brown hair with a slight tinge of red in some light, and the other one is really more strawberry blonde, but they had basically run out of kids who can play basketball with hair as red as Bonner, and it was a chance for my relative to get my boys in the video, so they bent the requirements a little for us.

So they film the video and show Coach B talking to the team about the important basketball fundamentals, like using sunscreen, at which point he pulls out an industrial-sized bottle of "SPF 1000" and has them all stick their hands in for a good squirt. Later he puts them thru their paces, but he's a little disappointed in the performance of his "perfect team" and that he's not sure they're ready to take on the blue team.

Then they cut to another team meeting where he's giving them a pregame peptalk and is talking confidently about how much better the team is playing and how he knows they are ready to take on all comers. Then they go down the line with each of the players sticking their hand in one at a time before they break the huddle, and then the last hand comes in, a giant black hand which dwarfs the combined hands of the other 7-8 players on the team, and the camera pans up from the hand to Kawhi, wearing a bright red Little Orphan Annie wig, and he gives the camera a big wink.

Kawhi wasn't there when we first showed up, and they really didn't bring him out until they were shooting the final shot, so we kinda had the same impact for the "punchline" that the video had. Anyway, it was pretty hilarious and a very cool experience for us all. My youngest son even played a little one-on-one with Kawhi and stole the ball from him. I understand the video was a big hit.

Lol @ Spurs. Aldridge looks bored... We shoot like crap most of the game. As soon as Portland starts knocking down everything, the Spurs keep pace and never let them have the lead. And in the end, we just let Manu do his thing. Poor Portland!

Hard to believe. We now have a 500 or better record against every single team in the NBA. Which is also hard to believe.

Portland did have a really long run from the late 80s to early 2000s where they were perennially good. They had the longest consecutive playoff appearance streak at one time. And they are ALWAYS tough at home. So that's not that surprising. If you had me guess at the one team the Spurs had a losing record against I would've guessed Lakers.

At any rate, this is an amazing stat.

I was looking at our full schedule and I was a bit miffed to see how we don't play the Warriors until later in the season, but we have to play them several times late. At first it seemed like a bad thing, but heck, who wants to play those guys right now!? Maybe by the end of the season they will have worn themselves out, had a couple tough injuries, or both!

I would never wish an injury on someone, but the only thing standing in Timmys way for another ring is a steph curry torn ACL.

Well, Pop definitely has a higher winning percentage...

And speaking of winning percentages, Kawhi Leonard has a higher winning percentage than MJ, LBJ and Kobe. (.768)

He's also second youngest player to reach 200 wins.

With Kawhi and Green, we are a really bad match-up for Golden State (probably the worst in the NBA). We can disrupt their shooters and they don't have skilled enough big men to punish us when we roll out smaller lineups. I think we could take them in a seven game series. It wouldn't be easy, but we've basically got the best shot in the league.

Playing them at the end of the season gives our offense more time to gel.

Let's not forget Kawhi had 7 steals last time we played GS. I believe 4 of those were from Curry.
