The Spurs are one of the few organizations that actually develops players. Sure Kawhi had the athleticism and attitude to be great, but his elite shooting was all through hard work and development. He wouldn't be this good with any other team, imo. Sure the Spurs got lucky with Timmy, but there is a reason guys like Parker, Manu, Leonard all become fantastic players in the Spurs organization. Sure there is a little luck involved but there is also a whole lot more of a deliberate plan and a bunch of hard work, IMO. The Spurs make alot of their own luck!

Funny... looking at the standings on ESPN I looked at the ppg stat for the Spurs & Warriors. Spurs are scoring exactly 104.6 PPG... The Warriors are giving up exactly 104.6 PPG. That's interesting!
The Spurs organization continues to impress me. I think most people around the league thought that once Timmy, Manu and eventually Tony retire that the Spurs would be down and have to rebuild. However, with the development of Kawhi and the acquisition of LaMarcus combined with young players like Anderson, Simmons and Boban, there shouldn't be much of a letdown at all. The Spurs should just keep on rolling.
Another thing that's overlooked is that the spurs are a leader in terms of nba trends. They didn't get lucky with Tony and manu, they were way out ahead in terms of developing international scouting and taking euro players seriously. The Rockets puff out their chests about morey ball and taking lots of threes, but the spurs started that trend and especially identified the corner three via analytics before other teams were thinking that way. The spurs were one of the most prolific high pick and roll teams long before the clippers and warriors figured it out. Then they created The Beautiful Game that the Warriors have replicated and improved upon via the virtuosity of Curry. Now they are back to owning the paint with big, skilled lineups while everyone else is small balling and using bigs solely as screeners and rim protectors. It remains to be seen whether that will win a title, but who else is thinking that way right now?
They are still way out ahead of anyone on maximizing production per minute per dollar. Contracts are generally structured for lower highs in the peak of careers but higher lows as superstars become experienced vets. The impending salary cap increase has given them room to sign two max contracts without impacting flexibility. They manage minutes and play lots of guys to prevent fatigue injuries and keep everyone at peak performance all year. This is part of why so many experienced vets will come here for less money. They'll get more run and better late career contracts than they would a lot of places.
Sometimes they spurs define the trend, sometimes they've picked up on it and taken it to new heights, and other times they've been fast followers, but this is how they've maintained relevance.

Last week it looked like it'd be impossible to finish undefeated at home. After the last few games, it's not looking so far-fetched. If we take care of business against the Dubs on Saturday, I'd say the chances are not bad.

The best part of the HEB spots for me for all time has been the implication that they're always wearing theit Spurs gear. For some reason that just kills me.
