Kawhi currently has a ridiculously stupid 92 DRTG. That means when he is on the court, the other team scores about 92 points per 100 possessions. Duncan is at 93. Ginobili is 94.

Currently, only two players are over 100. Boban at 101 and Parker at 102.

Every player on the Rockets and Pellies with at least 10 minutes has a DRTG higher than Parker.

I've also been very happy with Aldridge's defense and effort on that side of the ball this season. Wasn't exactly sure how good he was going to be on that side of the ball but he's been very solid.

and regarding Danny, as LA gets more comfortable and the first unit gets more used to him as well, Danny will find more and more looks as the season goes on. Pop will also find ways to get him shots once he adjusts as well. Guys are still feeling each other out.

It's awesome having the Big 3 in the twilight of their career, and seeing the future of the franchise right in front of us with Kawhi and LA. No rebuilding era.

I hope Green and/or Thrills can take that next step and become part of a new Big 3.

So true. It looks to me like the defensive adjustment has been nearly flawless. He's a bigger, stronger and faster Tiago.

The mystery right now is the offense. The starting group is a little stagnant. You'd think swapping Tiago for Aldridge would not have this effect. Otherwise it's the same group.

For as bad as his execution was, Tiago's style was made for the Spurs style of offense. The dropoff this early in the season doesn't surprise me.

....I wish our Ags could have a set style of offense :|

I do think it's more a mental thing then basketball. As in Aldridge looking to defer to much to his teammates while the guys continue to defer to Aldridge to try and make him feel comfortable. It will come with time. Not to mention Kawhi has the ball in his hands a lot more (one of the highest usage rates in the nba). While Kawhi is an amazing player, court vision and playmaking is still not his strong suit (although he's improving).

If you take into account defense (which most people don't), he very well might be. We see it every night, the common fan looks for his offense.

Right now, Manu, Mills, and Diaw are off to basically career high starts in shooting percentages. Patty is shooting lights out.

15-20 minutes per game Manu is a badass.

Mills is like a rich man's Gary Neal that plays defense. No moment is too big and he shoots like he sincerely believes every shot is going in.

Diaw is one of my favorite players to watch. He is so damn versatile and can do a bit of everything. He honestly kinda reminds me of LeBron in that way. He can shoot, post-up, pass in an almost telepathic way, finish near the rim, etc. His drive to the hoop game is admittedly not what it once was, though haha. Still, he adds so much dynamism to the offense.

For me, watching Diaw play makes me cringe and then laugh at how shockingly effective he can be. It's like really effective old man local gym moves. That guy you think no way he can score on you and then you somehow can never block his shot

Yea he's too old and too heavy to have much athleticism left, but he's still a damn good basketball player. He can contribute effectively in a lot of different ways.

Boris is such a great overall basketball player. We are extremely lucky to have him. Guy is vital to this team.

My favorite Diaw story, comes from a former Suns front office guy:
quote:
"Boris walks into the gym one day wearing flip-flops and holding his customary cappuccino, which was a staple for him every morning," Griffin recalled. "It was during pre-draft workouts, so he sees the Vertec [machine] and asks what it is.

"We tell him it measures your vertical leap by determining how many of the bars you can touch. He asks what's the highest anyone has ever gone, and we tell him Amare' [Stoudemire] cleared the entire rack.

"Boris puts down the cappuccino, takes off his flip-flops and clears the entire rack on the first try. Then he calmly puts his flip-flops back on, picks up his cappuccino and walks away, saying, 'That was not difficult.'"
He was a great athlete at one point, and he still has very good balance and quick feet and hands.

The surest thing in the league is Diaw matched up on a little guy, because he has such incredible footwork, balance, and patience. Every time, he calmly, smoothly backs the frantic defender all the way under the basket. He freezes potential help defenders with his eyes; they KNOW that if they come over Bobo will hit the cutter for a layup. And then, when he's got the defender under the basket, no help in sight, and a big size advantage, he still uses moves and feints and body language to ensure that he's going up when the defender is flat footed or coming down. Bobo takes nothing for granted.

I think the offense is struggling because they haven't worked out the plays, not because there is something wrong with the lineup. The offense worked great with healthy Splitter and Duncan on the floor together and defenders didn't respect Splitter outside the charge circle. Splitter was very, very good at setting his picks on time and at the right angle, and the Spurs had the timing down on all of their actions. The offense is not actually tons of choreographed plays, it's sets and then every player has options based on how the defense reacts. It's closer to how a Mike Leach football offense works.

What I'm seeing with Aldridge (and West) is that they tend not to make the same reads or make the reads as quickly, so the spacing gets goofed up or a pick is at the wrong angle or the cut is late. That can only come with time. Both guys are smart, they'll get there. Hopefully around the RRT they will be settling into a groove offensively. Meanwhile, the defense is very good and that's what they spent camp working on. They're working on some new wrinkles defensively, but at this point the base defense is 90% of the way there.

In that ginobli article posted above, I think he addresses this indirectly. When Splitter was there, he's not a stopping point for the ball movement. He catches and passes. With Aldridge, you want him to have the ball. So it stops the movement. Tim Duncan was the post player last year that would look for his shot. Now those roles are changing and it's going to take time for Aldridge to learn when to take it for himself and when he needs to keep kicking the ball around for movement.
