My neighbor just stopped me to tell me that a friend of a friend in gov't thinks a national lockdown is coming tomorrow.

I've never seen a more persistently false rumor.

Dallas-area hospitals are pressuring Gov. Greg Abbott to order residents to stay at home and warning a surge of patients sick with the new coronavirus could deplete their bed capacity by late April, according to an email from a Dallas-area hospital association obtained by The Dallas Morning News

Shelter in place ... time frame on this edict? 3 months was in the slide deck that was shown. Seems like a crazy long period.

Offices are closed:

2.
(b) All businesses operating within Dallas County, except Essential Businesses as
defined in below in Section 2, are required to cease all activities at facilities
located within the County. For clarity, businesses may continue operations
consisting exclusively of employees or contractors performing activities at their
own residences (i.e. working from home). To the greatest extent possible, all
Essential Businesses shall comply with the Social Distancing Guidelines
attached, including maintaining six foot social distancing for both employees
and the general public.
Quote:

b. For purposes of this Order, "Essential Businesses" means:

i. Essential Healthcare Operations. Healthcare operations, including
hospitals, clinics, dentists, pharmacies, pharmaceutical and biotechnology
companies, other healthcare facilities, healthcare suppliers, mental health
providers, substance abuse service providers, blood banks, medical
research, laboratory services, or any related and/or ancillary healthcare
services. Home-based and residential-based care for seniors, adults, or
children are also considered healthcare operations. Healthcare operations
also includes veterinary care and all health and welfare services provided to
animals. This exemption shall be viewed broadly to avoid any impacts to
the delivery of healthcare. Healthcare operations do not include fitness and
exercise gyms and similar facilities. Healthcare operations do not include
elective medical, surgical, and dental procedures as established in
accordance with Subsection 1(g) of this Order.

ii. Essential Government Functions. All services provided by local
governments needed to ensure the continuing operation of the government
agencies to provide for the health, safety and welfare of the public. Further,
nothing in this order shall prohibit any individual from performing or
accessing "Essential Government Functions." All Essential Government
Functions shall be performed in compliance with social distancing
requirements of six feet, to the extent possible.

iii. Essential Critical Infrastructure. Work necessary to the operations and
maintenance of the 16 critical infrastructure sectors as identified by the
National Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) including public
works construction, residential and commercial construction, airport
operations, water, sewer, gas, electrical, oil refining, roads and highways,
public transportation, solid waste collection and removal, internet, and
telecommunications systems (including the provision of essential global,
national, and local infrastructure for computing services, business
infrastructure, communications, and web-based services), financial
institutions, defense and national security-related operations, essential
manufacturing operations provided that they carry out those services or that
work in compliance with social distancing requirements of six feet, to the
extent possible. Essential Businesses providing essential infrastructure
should implement screening precautions to protect employees and all
activity shall be performed in compliance with social distancing guidelines
attached.

Highly doubt they'll be able to push it longer. People have to work. Companies have to function. Eventually people will stop listening to the edicts and decide working is worth the risk. It just isn't sustainable. Hopefully we can get the curve to slow enough and we absolutely need to continue with the social distancing and staying in when possible, but you can't just shut everything down for very long.

Damn, Tarrant is going to have to follow Dallas's lead at this point (and probably Collin and Denton); I know they don't want to but the pressure will be too much. Just incredible to see how much power Jenkins has over DFW in this situation, also shows what a void of leadership the city of Dallas has right now.

On shift today and talked to 2 friends. Nurses in the ER at Medical City Arlington and Methodist Mansfield respectively. Both said they are slammed today with folks that have fever, respiratory symptoms, and whited-out chest x-rays. None of them are getting tested.

You need either way more testing or lockdown. We we will all no someone who has it and in 2 or 3 weeks odds are we know someone who died.

This is really dumb...how does more testing help the situation? I know which way you vote based off of your idiotic statement. Even if you have the damn virus and aren't feeling badly, then why in the hell do you need to take the test? Save the limited tests for the sick people (not that many yet).

Republican not that that matters. The fact is many people spreading this virus don't even know they have it. If more tests were ready some people that have it may stay home and we don't have to have a lockdown

Huh? Unless you test everyone most of these people who are spreading are asymptomatic and don't know they have it.

To me that's the reason for shut down. To stop the spread from otherwise seemingly healthy people.
