Cases from nursing homes (240 in the county as of today's reporting) and prisons (158 in the county jail - as of today) are fully included in all daily case counts, right?

If so, why?

Both are completely independent of any benefit or negative from "social distancing".....Counting all cases of people who don't effectively LIVE in "quarantine" seems like a much more fair metric to track the trajectory.

Maybe that data wouldn't be materially different, i don't know...but common since would say its how all data here and elsewhere should be being reported.
Because old people and prisoners are still people?

That isn't my point

It does not help us answer the question "is social distancing working?", or make decisions about re opening things, to include data associated with people not living amongst the greater population

If 50 prisoners tomorrow test positive, what relevance does that have on whether x y z business should open, or whether it's "safer" to go to the grocery store than it was 2 weeks ago?

Wouldn't it help imply that social distancing is helping? If cases are still high and growing/spreading in environments where people are enclosed and indoors, what does that say about opening up offices, movie theatres, gyms, arenas, etc?

For data purposes, of course more detail is helpful and it would be useful if they broke it down at that granular level.

If we're really going to go down the road of saying "we should use prisons and nursing homes as a cautionary tale of what could happen if we open businesses before there is a vaccine", then all is lost

You're right though, that's exactly how Clay and other large-metro judges around the state would spin the data I mean "science"

Which part did I spin?

The goal was to flatten the curve

The "curve" of cases/deaths, *for purposes of re opening the economy*, should include people living in the greater population

This spreading like wild fire amongst older folks with compromised health, living in tight quarters ... or in a PRISON.... are data that should be disregarded *for the purposes of the re opening process* imo

I won't speak for your interpretation of the data, but that is mine

This is 100% right. The way to do it is to say we had X cases today, but Y of them are in prisons and nursing homes.

X is inclusive of Y, but it should not factor into decisions about businesses for the reasons above.

We won't ever see this data, nor will we see the new case number as a % of tests. Doesn't fit the narrative

Except nursing homes and prisons are full of people who work there and go home every day.

Is there any place where they are keeping track of what date the positive cases were taken? I don't care about what day the case is reported positive, I want to know when that positive person actually got tested. Or have all the labs now started returning results in 24-48 hrs so the positive cases are indicative of what is currently going on in the counties?

The Dallas test sites at AAC and Ellis Fieldhouse are using Quest and have a 3-5 day turn time. I think that's pretty much typical now.

3-5 days means what? are they sending the test to a central lab somewhere out of state?
seems way too long to be useful...

I don't imagine Quest is sending them out of state, they have some pretty large labs in North Texas. That is down from 10-14 days so it's improving. Quest uses Roche and Hologic equipment for these tests, not sure how many of those machines Quest has in North Texas, but Roche says a batch of tests can take 3.5 hours and their highest throughput machine can do up to 1056 tests in an 8 hour shift.

Dallas County: 179 new cases today, 5 new deaths. The trend seems to be going the wrong way these past few days.....

I'm hoping the increased numbers due to increased testing

Testing has now been made available for front-line workers (grocery, big-box stores) who do not show any symptoms which is why the confirmed case numbers has risen today.

City of Dallas tests per day has gone up dramatically in the last couple weeks, from 200-300 to 800-900 per day. Not sure if it means they're catching the asymptomatic cases now?

They also implemented mobile testing last Thursday unit that I believe is mostly testing nursing homes, which has tested 600 in the first 6 days, and would probably have a higher positive rate than the drive thru testing sites.

Fort Worth also seems to be surging, but could again be for testing increases.

Long term, need to track ICU cases and deaths rather than raw caseload.

Here's a COVID dashboard for Texas only.

One of the pages has Trauma Service Area (TSA) Hospital Data. We are all in TSA E. TSA E has 7.8 million people within it. The number of active COVID patients in TSA E is 611.

611 active COVID patients in North Central Texas.

1650 students are going to graduate 4 at a time in a 15 minute ceremony? do they have anyone in the administration who knows how time works

if they're going 4 at a time and the ceremony takes 15 minutes, you'd need 100+ hours to get through 1650
