My boys really took to hunting snakes, toads, frogs and lizards during quarantine, and were very excited to "sneak" up on this rough earth snake last night.
I used to see those everywhere when I was a kid. They used to hide in the dugout spaces for water meters in the front yard of every house near the street.cjaetzold said:

I showed my kids how meter boxes can be mini-herp traps and now they mess with all the neighbors boxes.4stringAg said:
Haven't seen one in years though (and have looked in water meters). My neighbors probably wonder what in hell I'm doing poking around their water meter on daily walks.
how can you have no clue when you get it right on the first one? You got this... look at coloration above and PATTERN along the back.agcrock2005 said:
YBWS and DBWS?? In pic 1 that is. No clue on second pic.
I know what you mean. These threads have changed me so much that I feel sad when I see pics like that of non-venomous snakes. And that's even after rat snakes eat like 50% of my chicken eggs! (This thread still hasn't changed my feelings about venomous ones yet, but I'm working on it...)bh93 said:

The post above is correct on the first pic and the second is a DBWS as well
Edit: Pretty sure the DBWS from the first pic is the same snake with better lighting in the second pic.
