Got damn 4 foot rat snake killed one of my poults. I had forgotten to close them up in the chicken house before I made a late grocery run. By the time I got back, a rat snake had already found them, grabbed, and constricted one, and was trying to figure out how to swallow it.
Sometimes you learn the hard way: chickens go up at dusk or before. Fortunately, my chicken house is a snake proof design when they're actually in it: 1/4 hardware mesh, no snake can get in, not even the copperhead that was also lurking around.
They both were allowed to live through my magnanimous beneficence.
Still irks me.

I didn't realize they ate their own. Other snakes yes but not each other. That is fascinating.

I dispatch Copperheads on a regular basis, smashed a young ones head this past Saturday and the little fugger was still trying to run me down.
Found a beautiful and big Coral snake while out on the bike a while back but it did not sit still for a photo op...I have only seen one the past decade but they would get relocated if found in the neighborhood.

Katy Texas. Could not positively ID but I do not think they are cottonmouths. Any experts determine whether they were eating something or mating?

Wyndehaven Lakes Estates off of Roesner and Westheimer Parkway
On the other side of Buffalo Bayou from you west on Roesner. Most of the lakes in our area are full of DBWS and BBWS

Mother-in-law and sister-in-law were clearing brush around farm pond in Lavaca county. Best pic the SIL could get. Probably an easy ID for most but I am not sure. Black snake with yellow bands.

That is a difficult pic to ID from , but in that area and environment with keeled scales as it appears to have and that pattern. I will say I'm about 90% sure that is a broad banded water snake.

Thanks, y'all. Here's another one: brother lives in Charlotte, NC and one quarantine day they came upon a "cottonmouth." I'm not positive it's a cottonmouth but I also know nothing about North Carolina snakes. The head is circled in first photo.
