Stole this from our neighborhood Facebook page, they person who posted them actually identified them as harmless which is a first. Western rat snake and diamondback water snake would be my guess

Dang, after 5 years I thought I had some of these figured out. Apparently not. Thought that last one was cottonmouth because of the narrowing of the tail.
Location is also helpful, this is in Sachse/Wylie which is northeast Dallas and it is extremely rare to see any moccasins up here. One herps on here a has said the little most likely spots to see any are around Rowlett nature preserve (seen several there) and around the Woodbridge golf course which is where most of my snake pictures come from since there are trails that run through it. We also have several stocked ponds and creeks through the neighborhood. It is actually a great place to teach people about snakes since they are out quite a bit and most of them are harmless

I've been disappointed. I spent all weekend at my place clearing brush. Turned over a dozen logs and kicked around under brush and didn't see a single snake. My wife thought I was crazy for wanting to find snakes, but a total shut out was a let down.
One of our crews out at Former Kelly AFB in San Antonio found this guy lurking under the well pad of a monitoring well they were abandoning yesterday. Luckily, they all know how good kingsnakes are and made sure he stayed safe.

So a question for the experts...is that kingsnake I posted likely to be a Common Kingsnake or a Desert Kingsnake? Looking at photos, it appears both can have that same type of pattern. Is there a good way to tell them apart?

Does a rat snake being attracted to your car say anything about how clean you keep your car? Dropped food/crumbs -> mice -> rat snake.

I am sure he is grateful that you found him and released him back in the yard.
Most grateful I save him from my Aussie, who was trying to figure out what the hell this thing was. Just moved to an acre with some pretty good wildlife. Two snakes in two weeks, hoping this trend continues (much to the dismay of my wife).

Awesome! Snakes are creepy to most people but they have a very important role in the ecosystem. It's really hard to persuade people out of their natural fear, but it can be done. Just don't handle a nonvenomous snake and chase anyone with it or fake throwing it on them... it's apocalyptic
I feel like the good lord is helping me out a little bit. My wife actually wanted to see the Texas Blind snake we caught last weekend. Wouldn't touch it, but easing our way into it. This one is a good step #2.

Gotcha! For a little bit it looked like a gulf marsh snake but I am also viewing on mobile and it's a little tough to zoom. That's what it looks like to me but I'll defer to one of the experts... it's 100% nonvenomous but it could be ribbon or garter snake.
In that area, Has to be a Gulf Coast ribbon snake.

Not one of my finer moments, I had been drinking all day (for my best friends wedding) and was in Michigan, outside of my comfort zone of snake ID. However, I was 99% certain this was a northern water snake and that's why I caught it. It wasn't graceful... as the 1% will make you a little more cautious
What you don't see is me chasing/approaching the bridal party with said snake as they were taking pictures. It was well received, for the most part.. but the water snake musk stayed with me for awhile, as it always does.

The bride to be thought it was hilarious but her Michigan and Colorado friends were not impressed... after things calmed down and the snake was calm, everyone got to enjoy it.
It wasn't the most graceful presentation of nonvenomous snakes but it did the job. Probably 30-40 people came up and touched the snake. 99% thought I was crazy but that's okay.

As most water snakes do, he calmed down and was pretty docile after 2-3 minutes
I really respect your posts and knowledge, but you have to concede that unorthodox methods, may be effective...

Kids think they have a new pet. 7yo son accurately id'd as non venomous. Apparently not overly bitey for a pbws
