I've come across my fair share of rattlesnakes on saltwater and every one of them has been p!ssed off and trying to get into the boat with me. IMO, these things are more scary than sharks, sting rays and alligators combined!!

I've somehow lost my old pics of them but I've had a couple close encounters with rattlesnakes when kayak fishing in the bay but it's probably at least 10-12 years ago now.
And in one of the old snake threads I posted this pic of a fat nope-rope that was checking us out fishing the Lower Colorado (can't believe this was 5 years ago).

No joke, do you carry a spear in your kayak for keeping snakes at bay? A paddle is just going to piss that cottonmouth off.
You could easily deter that guy with a paddle or launch him a good distance away.

I decapitated one with a paddle once - it was in our cattle tank. Hate to do it, but the kids play there.
Fishing rods normally work if you can get them in the head but we had one pissed of massive copperhead keep coming after getting hit in the head a few times. Headed towards a house with some hard workers and had them take care of it with a shovel. None of us at first thought it was a copperhead with how aggressive it was but it was. Don't know if we peed in his Cheerios or what.

North Houston Suburbs just south of The Woodlands. Tons of snakes. Good ground coverage and lots of creeks/tributaries.
I've seen 3 on this short path in the same day. Gotta stay on the cement path and keep my dogs on a leash. My dog stepped over one and somehow didn't get bit. Snake never moved.
As usual, the one in the picture wouldn't budge either. I got a big stick and pushed him off the path. He stayed stiff as a board until he was mostly off the trail. This makes them more easily stepped on than some other species.
Maybe cold/cool and sluggish? Going to the path to get warmed up maybe?

I think so. When the temps go up like they did on this day i wasn't surprised to see this one. You can imagine what it's like in the spring.
